This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography The Playground Without Limits at Tidwell Park was designed to be bright, exciting, and fully accessible for children with disabilities. Park visitors with sight and hearing impairments will find that the play equipment offers fun, sensory-rich activities. Braille and sign panels encourage learning and interaction. Children with mobility issues can join in the play via a series of ramps and transfer systems that allows access to 90% of the play structure. A rubberized ground surface and covered picnic areas invite the whole family to interact at the playground.

Biography Rotary Centennial Park, located on Rotary Way, is designed so that children with disabilities can play alongside able-bodied friends. The park not only includes a playground, but it also includes a bankshot basketball court and a splash pad. Rotary Centennial Park was made possible by the 3 Rotary Clubs in Jonesboro (Rotary Club of Jonesboro, Rotary Club of Jonesboro – University, and Rotary Club of Jonesboro – Metro), and it was dedicated to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Rotary International.

Biography This playground is dedicated to the memory of Sarah McCullough, a little girl that inspired her mother to dream of a place that all children can play. A true inclusive playground, this play area allows for all children to put aside physical and mental differences and play together. The rubber Poured in Place surfacing allows for great mobility to all pieces of equipment. This playground with equipment from Landscape Structures Inc has poured-in-place safety surfacing and a variety of play panels, overhead events and ramps. In addition, a Sway Fun® glider and Elevated Sand Table provide sensory-rich experiences. The playground consultant for this playground was O’Brien & Sons.

The park is open to the public during daylight hours. Visitors are greeted with a one-of-a-kind sculpture. This sculpture was created by local artist, Bill Kolok, from refurbished wheelchair wheels. Like all the amenities in the park, this sculpture blends aesthetic beauty with interactive design- spin the wheels to hear all the fun sounds they make. There is a play structure where children of all ability levels can play alongside one another as equals. Slides, tunnels, and obstacle course features make this playground a fun challenge for our more able-bodied visitors as well. There is a large table with stackable blocks. There is a fish pond, bridge, and dry bed creek for children to explore. There are other unique features including a wheelchair maze. See pictures. code

Biography There are two playgrounds in New Orleans City Park, one for ages 5-12 and this one for 2-5. Featuring a custom Clatterbridge handrail specifically designed for 2-5 years and also a Transfer Module for ADA accessibility. The structures were installed over a concrete base with a poured-in-place rubber surfacing. Separate play space for 2-5 year olds (tot lot). 10 6′ Border Timbers for Sandbox, Acc EZ Digger; Post Icons- Sun, Friends, Telescope, Hand Over Hand Ladder – Wheelchair Ht, Storefront and Crawl Tube, 360 Spiral Slide, Lightning Wide Slide, Double Glide Slide, Glide Slide, Crit Cross, Challenge Walk, Babble-On, U-Bounce, Steggo, Ribbon, Climb Across, Beanstalk Climber, Silo Climber, Spiral Climber, and Arch Swings. Biography Located inside Memorial Park, across Memorial Loop Drive from the Memorial Park Golf Course Clubhouse, with convenient parking at the Mayor Jim McConn Ballfield. The Vale-Asche Foundation Playground was built as Houston’s first Playground Without Limits, and was dedicated on December 16, 2006. It was designed to be bright, exciting, and fully accessible for children with disabilities. Children with sight and hearing impairments will find that the play equipment offers fun, sensory-rich activities. Braille and sign panels encourage learning and interaction. Children with mobility issues can join in the play via a series of ramps and transfer systems that allows access to 90% of the play structure. A rubberized ground surface and covered picnic areas invite the whole family to interact at the playground. Biography The Mission of the Walnut Grove Playground is to provide a recreational playground where individuals of all abilities are able to Learn Through Play and enjoy the freedom to interact with their peers. The playground is being completed in two phases, with the second phase being completed in 2019. Currently, The Walnut Grove’s playground – The Hine Memorial Fund Inclusive Playground – incorporates play equipment that is versatile and appeals to children of all age groups and abilities. It includes a large play structure featuring double wide ramps a variety of slides, climbers, activity boards and fire poles. Beyond the main center structure, are free-standing pieces for children to play on, including a We-Saw where up to 4 people can see saw together and wheelchair users have easy access to transferring themselves from their chair, the Rollerslide engages children that use Cochlear implants to slide down without any interference to their device and an Omni Spinner, which spins riders in circles. The entrance of the playground features a large shade structure for picnic tables and musical equipment, which allows children to explore and create their own music on a variety of drums and a metallophone. Each instrument is designed so that all children have access to it, including those in a wheelchair. The second phase of the Hine Memorial Fund Inclusive Playground will feature 5 additional play sections, including: Sand Play, an Imagination area with play structures, swings, motion and a triple Zip Krooz. The surfacing of the playground is poured in place rubber and concrete so that all are able to access the play area. At this time port-a-johns are available for use, but the board of directors is exploring other options for the future.

Biography This playground was built in 2018 as a partnership between the communities of Thorncliffe, Greenview, Variety Club Alberta, volunteers from the Rotary Club, Parks Foundation Calgary, and the City of Calgary. It features assessible parking, pathway access, shaded assessible table seating, pour in place rubber surfacing, partial fencing from roads, a tandem assessible zip line, assessible spring teeter, rotating rope climber, musical instruments, ramped multi play unit, enclosure seat, saucer swing, assessible tandem swing, standard belt and baby swings, standard height and lower height bench seating. Assessible washrooms are available to the public in the community center building. Rocks and ornamental grasses were added to the perimeter to enhance the natural aspect of the playground. Sincere effort was made to make this playground as inclusive as possible.
