This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration and Landscape Structure’s Playground opened in 2014. This is a pocket park, is unstaffed, and is open from dawn to dusk. This inclusive playground delivers a nature-inspired playground design, and even offers a custom treehouse-themed play structure. Plus, the extensive ramping system and rubberized playground safety surfacing will bring individuals using mobility devices to the center of the playground action. Notes

Developed by the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District and operated by the City of Boca Raton, this 132-acre park continues its commitment to enhance the role of recreation and culture for residents and visitors alike.

Sugar Sand Park is home to the Children’s Science Explorium, the Willow Theatre, and the Field House which features an indoor gymnasium. The carousel includes 2 wheelchair chariots in addition to the horses.

The Science Explorium offers Sensory Friendly saturdays on the first Saturday of each month for an opportunity to explore the museum in a sensory-modified setting with sound and lighting adjustments. Call 561-347-3906 for additional information.

What is there to do?
- There is a community center, field house, playground (closed until early 2017), Children’s Science Explorium, Willow Theatre, nature trails, roller hockey rink, outdoor basketball courts & picnicking (http://www.sugarsandpark.org/map-of-sugar-sand-park). If you want to know something specific is open, please call before traveling a long distance! Occasionally, certain areas are closed for maintenance or other reasons – the number is 561-347-3900 for the Community Center and 561-347-3950 for the Field House.
Is there a fee to enter?
- Entrance to the park is free. The carousel costs $1 per person, per ride, and the Science Explorium has a suggested $5 per person donation. There is a $5 fee for non-residents to participate in Field House “open play” activities for basketball, volleyball and pickleball. Classes, special events, pavilion rentals and leagues all have costs associated with them.

Notes Summit Park, located in the center of Blue Ash, is a 130-acre world-class park project currently under development where visitors will enjoy interactive programming, unique learning opportunities and year-round experiences in one of the region’s most beautiful settings. Notes The park underwent a renovation in the summer of 2013 that included the implementation of fully-accessible playground structures for all abilities ages 2-12, and resurfacing of the basketball and tennis courts. Sunnyside is the southernmost park in the District. Amenities: 3.0 acres Full Accessible Playground Tot lot Two tennis courts Basketball court Biography The large ramped structure is located on tiled surfacing. Basketball court, baseball field, picnic tables, grills, drinking fountains, restroom facilities, and play structures, including water-squirting turtles. Notes South Davis Park has five unique recreational areas: The Fairbanks Dog Park is a canine paradise with two exercise and training pens for local dogs and visitors alike. The Dog Park also has a pond for water-dog training, and a series of meandering trails that are traveled by many Fairbanksans—with or without their canine companions. Like most communities across the U.S, soccer is the #1 youth sport in Fairbanks. The 21 fields across the street from South Davis Park aren’t enough handle the growing need. So, the Fairbanks Youth Soccer Association constructed six additional at South Davis Park with plans to develop four more fields in the coming years. Not to be outdone, the Interior Adult Soccer Association is constructing three adult soccer fields at the park as well. Softball is big in Fairbanks. To support their burgeoning numbers, the Golden Heart Softball Association is constructing three adult softball fields at the park, in addition to their four home fields across the street at the Hez Ray Sports Complex. If fast-pitch softball is your passion, there are five fields and a multi-purpose field house at South Davis Park constructed by the Interior Girls Softball Association.

Biography This Riverside Homeowners Association features two different play areas. Sunset Park has a PlaySense® play structure designed for 2- to 5-year-olds, and Sun Canyon installed a PlaySense play structure for kids ages 5 to 12. Both play areas welcome children of all abilities. In addition to the inclusive play playground, swings were included to provide the high-flying fun that children crave.

Biography Maryland State Parks have thirty-three accessible playgrounds across the state. All have been designed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age. The ADA Access Specialist within MDNR Engineering/Construction, who also serves on MDNR Disabilities Advisory Council, indicated that the following playgrounds meet the Let Kids Play criteria for inclusion in this directory. You can find a map of each park by clicking on the park name. For more information about additional accessibility amenities such as cabins, camp sites, hunting areas, fishing piers, boat ramps, trails, picnic areas, and other adaptive recreation equipment, visit their Marylands’ Accessibility for All website. There are two accessible playgrounds in this park. One located near the accessible Camp Shower Building and the other located in the Deer Creek Picnic Area near the accessible Comfort Station and accessible Shelter. There is also an accessible trail (The Greenways Trail) from Conowingo to Stafford Road. The park is in Harford County, three miles northwest of Havre de Grace, off RT. 155, 35 miles from Baltimore.

Notes Municipal Park is a diversified 18-acre community park with entrances on both Commerce Drive and Main Street Extension. The park’s amenities include a Recreation Center, multi-use fields, a picnic pavilion, tennis courts, a basketball court, skateboarding park, a playground, small picnic shelters, a .66 mile fitness/nature trail, and a concessions/restrooms building. Biography A 100% universally accessible playground that was designed with the assistance of Shane’s Inspiration, a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, CA that specializes in universally accessible playground design. It has a PlayBooster® playstructure which brings nature right into the playground. With lots of unique components like the log slide, log crawl tunnel, Natural Climbers and the custom flower shade structure. There are accessible pathways and rubber surfacing; cozy spots where children can gather; harnessed swings with back support; and elevated sand tables and activity panels. The play area also includes accessible picnic areas and family-style restrooms. The playground equipment Landscape Structures Inc. and was built by Rocky Mountain Recreation.

Biography The playground which opened September 2016, is located at Swinson Park, located off of Swinson Park Road near Morehead Primary School in Morehead City. It includes a Liberty Swing, adaptive swings, zip line with adaptive seating, shading, sensory slides, and tandem slides. A portion of the surfacing is wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for people using mobility devises to maneuver around the playground.
