This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Notes Features: Large Climbing Structure 2 Ramps Slide Rock Wall Ladder Bridge Dinosaur Climber 4 Seater Wobbler 2 Bowl Spinners 2 Swings 2 Infant Swings Biography St. Andrews Heights Playground features a large climbing structure with a slide, ramps, a rock wall, and a ladder bridge. There is a dinosaur climber, a 4 seater wobbler, and 2 bowl spinners. There are 4 swings, two of which are infant swings. The recycled tire flooring allows accessibility right up into the play and in a few places, you can go under and through. There are two ramps to the first level of the play structure so you can ride around in a loop. The swings and bowl spinners are great for kids who benefit from vestibular motion. Although this is a community playground, it is next to a school and will be used by the children at the school during recess and lunch. The park area is fenced but has a couple of ungated exits. There is some shade offered at the playground by a few large trees. There are 4 benches and a picnic table to provide seating.

Biography The toddler playground opened in 2010 and was the first toddler playground integrating both inclusive and natural play elements in Minnesota. Designed by Landscape Structures Inc., our new playground is custom designed with every toddler in mind. The equipment is specifically for children 16 months to three years, at all stages of physical, cognitive and social development The layout provides the perfect balance of open space to run, jump and roll as well as fun play components that provide the “just-right challenge” for everyone St. David’s Center features a state-of-the-art playground developed for both typically developing children and children with special needs. MeMe’s Playground is located on the northern perimeter of St. David’s Center (near Plymouth Road) and is open to the public after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends.

Biography The playground, which opened in 2015, has open space to encourage running and jumping as well as playground structures that are inspired by nature. It’s designed for children of all abilities, including those in wheelchairs and those with autism. The playground is designed for children aged three to ten. The playground is open to the community on weekends and night weekdays. The playground is connected to a 2.5-acre DNR-certified school forest, which encourages kids to play with sand, rocks, leaves and logs. St. David’s Center officials say that playing and exploring the outdoors is an important part of the learning experience for kids at the center.

Biography Unlimited Play is a nonprofit organization that builds universally accessible playgrounds to promote health and wellness for all children. The organization was hired to build a playground at the YMCA Family Campus, near The Shoppes at North Village. The playground offers swings that strap the child in for those who lack the strength to hold on. Another feature is a sliding board built from a nonplastic material, which allows play for children with cochlear ear implants without the negative effects such as static interference to the device. Another feature is a zip line — one with a harness and one without.

Biography San Francisco’s largest inclusive playground. The play area is located on the second terrace below the recreation center. The playground has a series of fantasy-inspiring decks, bridges and slides, and incorporates features throughout the park that facilitate play for children with physical, developmental and emotional disabilities.A climbing wall, an “Apollo Whirl” spinning cable structure and a multicolored play surface with colors representing land, water and earth are also new to the playground.

Notes Stanley Park is a privately owned 300-acre park, including an arboretum and botanical garden, located in Westfield, Massachusetts. It is open to the public daily without charge from May to November. The park was established in 1945 by the philanthropist Frank Stanley Beveridge (1879–1956). It includes a number of gardens, listed below, as well as a playground, soccer fields, tennis courts, picnic area, wildlife sanctuary, colonial pond, covered bridge, and blacksmith shop. Features include a resilient rubberized surface, mister sprays, swing sets and “cool topper” shades. New landscaping, irrigation, benches and a drinking fountain were also installed at the time the playground was installed. This is a Shane’s Inspiration Playground and the playground consultant was RecWest Outdoor Products.
