This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography If you like running through the sprinkler, you’ll love the Fairfax County Park Authority’s newest attraction – Our Special Harbor Sprayground at Lee District Park. The fully accessible complex features Chesapeake Bay-themed attractions including a spraying osprey nest, Chessie the sea serpent, misting sunflowers and a lighthouse. The beach area is quieter with softer bubblers and interactive water tables. The computerized water maze and dumping crab basket provide more lively activity. The spray park, tree house and a playground for children ages 5 to 12 have been completed and are open to the public. The new playground, known as “Chessie’s Big Backyard,” is fully accessible and incorporates slides, swings and other equipment specially designed for use by all children, including those with special needs. Biography The new playground which replaced the one that burned down in 2008 features a pirate ship and a castle. The ship is for 2-5 year olds, and the castle is for 6-12 year olds. Both are ramped making it easily accessible for everyone. The playground includes many interactive panels including music chimes, drums, and gears to spin. There are 4 bench swings and 2 baby swings.

Biography The Playground includes a sand area, a Sway Fun glider, adapted swings, a slide that has rollers to increase the sensory experience and tons of shade. A portion of the play equipment is from Landscape Structures. This is a Shane’s Inspiration playground. The playground consultant for this playground was RecWest Outdoor Products.

Biography This Landscape Structure playground includes a large ramped structure, a SwayFun, a EVOS climbing structure and a Wee Evos for the younger set. There are many opportunities for vestibular movement including swings, a roller slide, and spinners.

Freenotes Playground Instruments bring true tone to the area and there is and custom piano (like in the movie “Big”. There is an area for toddlers as well as school-aged children. In addition there is a Climbing Net – Spiderweb themed with custom fully-backed seats and Rollerslide and metal slides. Brandon’s Playground is a project of Unlimited Play. There is also a school-age play structure, a medium spinner a balance beam swing and large platform swing. There are other areas for climbing. There is a great merry-go-round that has ropes for climbing up. This is s hard to describe but it is really great piece of playground equipment. So visit Calgary Playground Review to see the picture of it. You will also find more information and lots of pictures. There are flat grassy areas as well as a steep hill and a soccer field. There is little shade except over the preschool playground which is provided by canopies. There are also 3 benches around the play area.

Biography The playground was built by hundreds of volunteers over a five day period out of synthetic lumber. The Brooklyn’s Playground is 28,000 square feet. There is wheelchair accessiblity to seven different levels of the playground. The playground has areas for pretend play, music, swing, climbing and sliding. Biography Over 70% of the play area at Burton Park Playgrounds can accessed by all children regardless of physical ability. A native plant landscaping is included in the play areas. There is a sand area and a water spray area that is active in the Spring, Summer and Fall months. In addition to the playground, Burton Park currently contains Madsen softball diamond, Flanagan baseball field, a large soccer field, three tennis courts, two full basketball courts, a tennis practice court, two horseshoe pits, the Kiwanis Recreation Building, two children’s play areas (one completely fence-enclosed and each with a play structure, slide, and swings), park benches, picnic tables, barbecue pits, and a turfed play area. The park has extensive landscaping throughout, including a number of mature trees.

ThisLandscape Structures playground is aimed at accessibility for people of all ages with disabilities. The surfacing is recycled tires. There is a medium sized play structure which includes a roller slide and two low ramps. There is a Gazebo which provides some shade, a Sway Fun, accessible play panels, a large accessible swing, and other easily accessible items for gross motor play.

Biography Cambrian Heights Park Playground has a huge level of variety and items not found at many other parks. There are actually two playgrounds located within a short distance. Playground 1 is school-age and Playground 2 is a preschool playground. Playground 1 has a large school-age play structure with 2 slides and 3 large saucer swings. There is a gong with chimes (missing mallet) and a store panel for imaginative play. There is a merry-go-round climber, a medium and a big ring spinner as well as a bowl spinner. There is great ground access throughout the play area. A few things can be accessed from a wheel chair and more can be enjoyed by someone who had a support person who can assist and transfer Playground 2 accommodates proficient walkers through age 4. The ground cover is pea gravel so children who are not proficient walkers will experience more enjoyment at Playground 1. There is a Preschool play structure with 2 swings. One swing is an infant swing. There are 2 bouncers and a dinosaur climber. There is great shade from mature trees and 1 bench for seating.

Notes FEATURES & AMENITIES Toddler playground equipment for 2-5 year olds which is ADA accessible. Small ballfield area. Picnic tables as well as grill. A portable restroom may be available from May-August. 16 parking spaces as well as 2 handicap parking spaces. This park has a new trail that is lit in the winter for skiing and in the summer there are points of interest for viewing salmon spawning. You can bike, run, or walk on the trail. There are fishing seasons on Campbell Creek. You can obtain additional information from Fish and Game. Located in the Campbell Creek Greenbelt.

Biography At Castle Park II there are 2 playgrounds, a pre-school age 2-5 and school-age 5-10. It is a very popular place with tons of kids. There are 2 toddler swings and more bigger swings. Biography This destination playground opened in 2010. The playground was designed with the support of parents of children with disabilities. An important motivation in providing this active venue was a report that 48% of the children in Allentown are considered overweight or obese. The playground includes the newest in technology and also a youth fitness trail that was designed to draw and encourage children to play and exercise. The playground includes a huge electronic game called NEOS. The playground also has seating and a pavilion for shade. The entire playground is fenced for safety. There is a bathroom on sight with water fountains. There is ample parking off of Ott Street. Watch Video from the Grand Opening:

Notes City Park was established as Liberty’s first park in 1949. It encompasses 12 acres in the heart of Liberty. It’s playground and sprayground are popular attractions for children, especially during the warmer months. Newly renovated City Park creates a play space for all abilities. New amenities include; spinners, swings, we-go-round, slides, 2-5 year old playground, 6-12 year old playground, climbers, sensory amenities, game tables, new restrooms, and new spray ground.
