This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography This playground was built by volunteers from Terasen Gas as part of their annual Community Giving Day. The new playground is aimed at children six and under and is accessible to all young ones regardless of any disability they may have. It features a special, safe sponge surface and a variety of playground equipment including swings, slides, climbing structures and special toys like a giant toy turtle for the kids’ entertainment.

Biography Tree Top Playground is a project o fUnlimited Play. Tree-house theme encompasses the playground. There are traditional, toddler, ADA accessible and Biggo Flyer Saucer Swings. There is a fully accessible splash pad for those hot summer days. Freenotes playground instruments bring true tone to the playground. There is both a toddler and school-aged sections that include rollerslide and metal slides.

Biography The playground features a Noah’s Ark and Bible verses on signs in Braille. There’s also a Crooked House Chapel with specially designed wider doorways. A steel drum that looks like a lady bug sits on the artificial turf installed especially for crawlers and new walkers. A Wheelchair Gondola has been installed so that all children can swing together. The lower playground has been landscaped with Engineered Mulch which may make it difficult for people using a wheelchair to maneuver throughout the playground. The upper playground has artificial turf for crawlers and new walkers. Playground Hours: Monday – Friday: 12:00pm -dusk Saturday: all day (until dusk) Sunday: 12:00pm – dusk

Children in wheelchairs or with reduced mobility are able to get right up into the play. There is a climber with a slide and a climbing wall. A house climber with a slide, a space ship climber with a ladder, and the scoop climber are sure to provide great play time. There is a seat bouncer and a motorcycle bouncer, as well as a standing spinner and a bowl spinner. The preschool playground area is completely fenced with two gates that latch so kids can have a lot of safe freedom for play. There is limited shade in the park area but there are two picnic tables with umbrellas. Valleyview Spray Park is typically open from mid-June until Labor Day. Open 9am-9pm June and July, and 9am-7pm August through Heritage Day. This spray park is completely wheelchair accessible, with a concrete ground cover, as long as you don’t mind getting wet! This water park is set up really well for young children. There are multiple spray features. There are a lot of small sprays on the edges of the splash pad and the larger sprayers don’t do anything unexpected. The sprays appear to run continuously during operating hours and there was a staff member who knew first aid. There is limited shade in the spray park itself and a small amount nearby. It would be great to bring along a park umbrella, and a blanket to sit on. There are a couple of picnic tables near the washrooms by the spray park.

Biography This brand new park located in South Los Angeles, will serve nearly 10,981 residents living within a one half mile walking distance of the park. There are three large sections of the playground dedicated to the different age ranges. Playhouse (2-12 yrs), Pre-School Age (2-5 yrs.) and School Age (5-12 yrs.) which has direct ramp access. This playground has Sway Fun, sensory-rich play stations, imagination & activity panels, elevated sand boxes, an 8 ft. suspension bridge, slide systems, and climbers. NOTE: There is a combination of pour-in-place rubber surfacing and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.

Biography In 2017, when it opened, The Willmar Destination Playground was the largest fully accessible playground in the five-state area, at just under 20,000 square feet. It was also the third-largest such playground in the United States. Throughout the site, there are swings, slides, a zip line, spider bouncer, monkey bars and even misters for those hot days. Children can also play on musical instruments, climb through a fantasy castle and pretend to be the conductor of a BNSF locomotive. There is a Liberty Swing and wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round.

Biography Great little park for younger kids. There is a playground (with rubber surface) that belongs to the school (open after 3pm to the public) which is a lot better than the playground (with wood chips) closest to the tennis courts. On the path to the new playground, there are little toy houses there. Fenced, with benches and see saw,swings, and bathrooms near the tennis courts. Basketball courts and baseball field at the regular park.
