This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Take a ferry ride! Children can pretend to be settlers as they shuttle people and cargo across the playground’s “Willamette River” on a play replica of the ferry that Eugene Skinner operated near the present-day Ferry Street Bridge shortly after settling in the area. Play in the rain! Help create the headwaters of the “Willamette River” at the Rain Circle, a water play element located in Kalapuya Village. Children control the rain with a push of a button that operates seasonally from 9.m. to 8:30 p.m. Discover a Kalapuya summer dwelling! Kids can play on, under and around this climbing structure, modeled after a Kalapuya summer dwelling. Do some climbing! On a play replica of Eugene’s unique basalt climbing columns at Skinner Butte, children can safely experience the thrill, challenge, and camaraderie of rock climbing, as well as the view from the top! Pretend you’re a pioneer! Creative play is fostered in Pioneer Village, where children can make believe they’re blacksmiths, school teachers, hotel patrons, and the town mayor. The possibilities are endless in this historical replica of Eugene, circa 1865. Dig for fossils! What better way to learn about the history of the area than to discover it yourself? Dig in the sand and uncover “artifacts” that reveal physical evidence of Eugene’s history, from dinosaurs to pioneer settlements! Ride in a stagecoach! Head out West in a play replica of a stagecoach modeled after the ones that parked out in front of the St. Charles Hotel in Eugene.

Biography Five MOMs (Mothers of Miracles), one Kiwanis Club, and hundreds of generous local citizens pulled together to make this inclusive playground happen for the community of Iola and its surrounding counties. Each of the MOMs picked out a play component based upon their child’s needs, including the Oodle® Swing and the Roller Table™. Physical therapists were consulted to help select other inclusive elements, like the Cozy Dome® and various sensory panels. The Riverside Park play area features a Summit Climber and a Cascade Climber, plus side-by-side Stationary Cyclers, one accessible and one standard. And since Kansas sun can be brutal, CoolToppers® shade systems were added to provide plenty of shade. The playground is partially surfaced with engineered wood fiber which may make it more difficult for some children to maneuver throughout the playground. Notes Includes: Accessible Swing Seat Pour-in-Place Surfacing Musical Instruments Splash Pad fenced Toddler Area Biography Riverwild is the combination of three physically connected elements – a splashpad, playground, and garden – all of which were built with the dual purpose mission of 1) learning about the great Tennessee River and 2) accommodating children and adults of all abilities. Support equipment can be utilized throughout Riverwild. Open to the public, there is no admission fee charged at Riverwild. Built on the footprint of the historic WPA wading pool, Riverwild Splashpad, a universally accessible water play area, runs from Memorial Day (May 30, 2011) through Labor Day (September 5, 2011) each year. A seatwall surrounds the Splashpad, and benches provide additional seating. This area is enclosed with a fence. The universally accessible Riverwild Playground has ramp access, play panels and graphic panels showing beautiful river wildlife at ground and ramp levels, and poured in place rubberized surfacing with the river running through it that walkers and wheelchairs can ride over with ease. Other features include swings (one high-backed swing), lowered and elevated monkey bars, musical instruments, a rock climbing wall, monkey rings, balance pods, talk tubes, and a section specifically for toddlers. Having been designed by a team including parents of children with disabilities, the playground is also sensitive to the needs of children with cochlear implants whose devices may be damaged as the result of static created when using plastic slides or tunnels; therefore, stainless steel slides and tunnels are used exclusively on this play structure. All children can enjoy at least 70% of the play activities. This playground is not only “boundless” in terms of accessibility, but also “boundless” in terms of social interaction. It is a place where children with disabilities are not segregated from the play experience with typical children. Riverwild Playground is enclosed with a fence. Riverwild Garden which surrounds Riverwild Playground, celebrates the riverine plants and animals unique to the Decatur area and the great Tennessee River, our region’s chief natural feature. The river has served as the key inspiration for the landscape design and art of Riverwild. The hardscape, native plants, and sculptures in Riverwild Garden represent the limestone bluffs, flood plains, river terraces, plants, and animals along the Tennessee River.

A “playground for all children,” this play space was designed to be accessible to children with and without disabilities. Features: A large play structure features tunnels, slides, sound-generating play components and wheelchair-accessible ramps. The playground also includes a sandbox with raised sand tables and bucket swings. Water feature: A water feature in the shape of a corkscrew allows children to run through mists of spray. Nearest bathroom: A comfort station is located inside the playground.

The ADA Access Specialist within MDNR Engineering/Construction, who also serves on MDNR Disabilities Advisory Council, indicated that the following playgrounds meet the Let Kids Play criteria for inclusion in this directory. You can find a map of each park by clicking on the park name. For more information about additional accessibility amenities such as cabins, camp sites, hunting areas, fishing piers, boat ramps, trails, picnic areas, and other adaptive recreation equipment, visit their Marylands’ Accessibility for All website. The playground is located in Hills Grove Area near the accessible Comfort Station and Shelter. The park in Harford County is about 30 miles north of Baltimore and 8 miles northwest of Bel Air on MD RT. 24.

Biography The 12,000-square-foot playground is also accessible for children and caregivers of all physical abilities. Rosedale playground’s features include: National Mall-themed play equipment. This custom equipment was designed especially for Rosedale, and elements include the White House, the US Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, the Hirshhorn Museum, the Washington Monument, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Natural History Museum, and the Air and Space Museum. Ramped access to the play equipment. The ramps are wide enough to allow two wheelchairs to pass each other or travel through the equipment together. Seating within the play equipment to allow caregivers or children to rest when needed. Sensory elements such as finger mazes, musical instruments, talk tubes, a sensory wall, and more. There are also quiet places for imaginary play for children who may prefer less stimulus. The Omni Spinner is a high-backed version of a Merry-Go-Round and allows children to be transferred into the equipment from a wheelchair or walker. The Spinner is good for sensory play, social skills, and team work. The Sway Fun Glider has room for two wheelchairs, plus two large benches for other passengers. Slides, overhead activities, and climbing features are located throughout the equipment. Notes Bellevue Park is Sault Ste. Marie’s main passive park. It is 17 hectares in size and offers a large playground area, 2.4 kilometres of asphalt walkway, multiple floral beds and a display greenhouse which is open to the general public. Biography The playground which opened in July 2016 includes outdoor musical instruments like a drum, ‘metallophone’, and chimes, designs and shapes designed to enhance tactile sensations, a ‘cozy dome’ cave that lets over-stimulated children have a quieter playing space, and several other “of the newest” climbing and spinning devices.

Two wheelchairs can pass on the ramps and there are large decks with crow’s nests. Children can wheel out from under the main traffic flow. At Riverside Village double wide ramps and extra large decks combine to provide exceptional elevated play space with ample room for multiple players with and without mobility devices. n addition to traditional slides and climbers, many different sensory experiences have been purposefully included to appeal to a wide range of users. Auditory, visual, olfactory, tactile, swinging, spinning and balancing opportunities are included, to name a few. Whether exploring independently or with friends and family, there is always something new to discover. There are special features, including musical instruments and miniature backhoes for playing in the sand.
