This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration and Landscape Structure’s playground opened in 2014. The Gig Harbor Maritime PlayZone project is an all-ability, all-inclusive play experience that gives every child a place to play as well as providing easy access for grown-ups of all abilities. The playzone includes an accessible fishing vessel representing the Gig Harbor fishermen of today, as well as other fun and challenging all-inclusive play equipment. Notes DIRECTIONS: From Rt. 80, Take Exit 299 (Tannersville) Make a right off the exit ramp onto 715 North. Take your first left (at the light, just before the Crossings Factory Outlets) onto Sullivan Trail. Follow Sullivan Trail approximately 1 mile. The Park is on the right across from Barley Creek Brewing Company. FROM ROUTE 611 North. Take Left at 715 S. First right onto Sullivan Trail. Follow Sullivan Trail approximately 1 mile. The park was opened in 1978 and offers three ball fields, one soccer field, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, four pavilions- including grills, well-equipped playgrounds, rest rooms, and nature trails. Biography Students at Curtis School in Los Angeles, Calif., are connected with nature during recess each day. Biography This is the 28th universally accessible and inclusive playground to be developed by Shane’s Inspiration and the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. The equipment was built by Landscape Structures and features a sea-creatures theme. The playground incorporates some musical elements for kids to engage with. There is plenty of parking and a ton of space for running around. The tot park is separate from the main play equipment. This playground is not fenced. Equipment includes: Bridges, Bubble Windows, Climbers,Crawl Tunnels, Musical Elements, Play Panels, Pod Bridge,Pod Climbers, Ramps, Rubberized Surface, Slides, Talk Tubes, Tot-Park, Twister Slide

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration playground includes colorful, sensory-rich equipment such as musical instruments, buttons that emit sounds and chime panels, and swings or see-saws with high backs offer support. Canopies over the structures don’t just provide shade, but offer protection to those sensitive to heat or light because of medication. The equipment is from Landscape Structures and the playground consultant on this project was RecWest Outdoor Products.

Biography This playground opened in 1956. Construction started in 1952 and was the brainchild of Archer Garner and Hank Ketcham, the creator of the famous Dennis The Menace comic strip. While the playground is not 100% accessible, much of it is and it includes a quiet area in the form of a maze. The playground has been updated several times since it opened and new inclusive play pieces have been added. While much of the original playground still exists, there are a lot of opportunities for inclusive play. The playground has many benches for parents to supervise and is fenced all around. This playground was ahead of its time and is a definite favorite among local children. Biography Dilly’s Place was started with $20 and a prayer. It took 10 years to raise the funds to build this playground. Mission Statement “To seek and improve the health and welfare of the communities in and surrounding Conway Springs, Kansas and provide a safe, appealing and universally accessible playground for children of all ages and development. ” About This Cause We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that is all volunteer, non-political, subject to bylaws and is organized as charitable. This organization has built and all inclusive safe playground which means it is universally accessible and configured to support a child’s development. It was built where children of all abilities can play together. Funds were raised for ten years and built in 2019. For the last 8 years, Dilly’s Place provides a safe family Fun Day FREE to Special Needs Families at the local YMCA Camp Hyde. Families have come as far as Oklahoma, Missouri, and Nebraska. This is the only Family Fun Day in Kansas and the Surrounding States that it’s sole purpose is 4 hours of Family fun.

Biography A park in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, is home to a PlayBooster® Vibe® that looks like a piece of art. Even more special, it’s an inclusive playground where kids of all abilities, ages 5 to 12, can come together to play, learn and grow. This playstructure artfully packs a lot of play experiences into a small space, including the ever-popular Saddle Spinners, Loop Arch Climber and Pod Climber®. Additionally, lots of accessible panels like the Color Splash Panel™, Marble Panel®, and Xylofun Panel® offer a sensory-rich visual, auditory and tactile play experience. Biography This project touched the hearts of many, as public, private, and faith-based organizations from Choctaw as well as surrounding communities came together to make the initial phases a reality. Phase I of this $610,000 playground/park was constructed by a community of 300 volunteers in October 2004. This phase provided a school aged structure with a variety of slides, climbers, monkey bars, panels, bridges, spinners and a space net climber. Phase II was completed in September 2006, adding two banks of swings, a basketball court, sidewalks and sod, resurfacing the concrete play area with asphalt, and addressing drainage issues. Phase III was completed in October, 2009 adding a Sway Fun and EVOS climbing structure which are Landscape Structures‘ equipment.

Some of the features of this Landscape Structure’s playground include: an OmniSpin Spinner, a We-saw with back support, roller slides, bouncers, inclusive swings, several sensory panels and monkey bars.
