This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography The playground opened in 2014. Some of the features of this Landscape Structure’s playground include: an OmniSpin Spinner, a We-saw with back support, roller slides, bouncers, inclusive swings, several sensory panels and monkey bars. A basketball court and tennis court are also on site. The playground is recommended for children ages 2-12 years old.

Biography The Enfield Rotary Accessible Playground is brand new and fabulous! Older kids will love the tall, steep slides and the ginormous spider web rope structure- located smack dab in the center of the playground. The toddler area is different from any in the region. Instead of a structure, there are individual elements to play on like a rockin’ river raft, a hippo you can walk into, a play house and more. The toddler area is separated from the older kids area by a picnic pavilion. The sight lines are not great- so this is a two adult playground if you have multiple kids with various ages. The playground is located in front of the Enfield Public Library. During the summer, the cool library provides a respite and bathrooms. The children’s reading room is filled with comfy book nooks and computer game stations. In the fall and spring, it is a place to warm up. Biography This uniquely themed playground opened in 2014. Made possible by the local firefighters, it has a fire prevention theme. The playground includes several features including: ramped access to elevated play areas, in addition to the typical wheelchair transfer stations. This was made possible by taking advantage of the site’s landscape to create looped accessible routes. a variety of inclusive play components that address the needs of a broad cross-section of special needs. These features include the cozy cocoon for children who are autistic and the metal slide for children with cochlear implants. a Fire Safety and Prevention theme promoting role playing through toy fire trucks and a rescue boat glider. Safety messages are reinforced through the use of graphics and text slogans on panels in the playground. the Intermediate Adventure play area features a one of a kind twinned obstacle course to simulate a Fire Fighter training challenge, complete with a zip-line rescue.

Biography On those hot summer days, be sure to check out the splash pad at Harvey Curry Park, home of “EVERYkids Park”, located between Lawrence Avenue and Town Line. There is a parking lot located on Town Line for your convenience. The splash pad operating hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Friday, September 11. The splashpads will close at 6 p.m. daily beginning Saturday, September 12 through Friday September 18. They will be closed for the season as of 6 p.m. on September 18. Washroom/changeroom facilities will be open only during splash pad hours.

Notes Amenities Schlanger Center – The center has 2 rooms that you may reserve for birthday parties, showers, receptions and meetings. Skate Park – The Pitt Skate Park can be used for skateboards and skates daily and bikes on Wednesday. Sledding – The sledding hill, on the south side of the park, used by kids of all ages during the winter months. Tennis and basketball – Tennis and basketball courts are located at the northeast corner of the park. Volleyball – Two sand volleyball courts, located on the south side of the park, are available for public use. Notes The park features: colorful slides tubes bridges adapted swings interactive puzzles a quiet area a dragon mister a Sway Fun Biography Children with and without special needs are invited to the Everychild Foundation Universally Accessible Playground at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital. This bright and safe play area provides children with integrated play opportunities through specially-designed playground equipment with sensory features. Opened in February 2008, the Playground accommodates children with wheelchairs, leg braces, crutches and other barriers that would otherwise leave them confined to the sidelines at traditional playgrounds. The Playground provides a colorful, safe and stimulating outdoor haven for children in the community — regardless of their physical limits — to come together, play and learn from each other. The nearly half-acre play area features special equipment in a modern and creative environment. The Playground has sturdy foam ground cover to protect children from falls and yet is wheelchair-friendly. The park features a wonderland of brightly colored slides, tubes, bridges, swings, interactive puzzles, a quiet area and lush landscaping for children ages 2 to 12. A water feature shoots columns of water up from the ground while a whimsical blue-eyed red dragon puffs clouds of mist down toward children, which is especially useful on hot days. A gently sloping ramp includes motion sensors that, when triggered, set off musical chimes. Through a joint-use agreement with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the playground is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week (except holidays), with maintenance and security provided by the city. This is a Shane’s Inspiration Playground done in collaboration with RecWest Outdoor Products. Special Saturday Play Dates Hosted by Support Groups The Everychild Foundation Universally Accessible Playground at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital offers free Saturday “Play Dates” with coordinated activities including face painting, arts and crafts, entertainment, and treats (but please feel free to bring a sack lunch). LAOH support groups Las Niñas and Juniors/Pinafores host these events that offer members opportunities to volunteer.

The playground includes a tot lot for smaller children, an older children’s play area with a mini climbing wall and slide, and drums to beat and bells to ring. The Century Wall that has sounds and a panel on the floor so you can play music with your feet. This unique playground was made by Landscape Structures and Coast Recreation. The area has a splash fountain and a carousel for children. The park also includes handicap accessible rental paddle boats.

Biography Opened in 2014. There are two main reasons why this park is so special and unique. The first component is the park will have a splash pad spanning 3,000 square feet, with above- and below-ground water features. The second component, which sets this apart from anything else in the area, is 13,000+-square-foot playground that is universally accessible. A universally-accessible playground is a playground specifically created and designed to be accessible to all children, including those with challenges. First Federal Bank Park will address the need for ramp access onto playground features, play panels at ground level, modified swings and surfacing that provides ease-of-access for all mobility-assistance devices. Because challenges go beyond physical limitations, this design will also meet the needs of children and adults with mobility, sensory, or cognitive impairments. This will be the first universally-accessible playground and splash park in the Magic Valley. First Federal Bank Park will be a location where all children and their families can go and play. Play is universal, and this park will allow kids of all abilities to play alongside each other and experience that joy. The need for a universally-accessible park doesn’t extend just to children — it also extends to parents, grandparents, and adults in general that may have mobility challenges.

Biography This play structure has a Wild West theme The play components are unique and fun. The playground includes play panels, ramps and poured-in-place safety surfacing. Biography Fort Medford is actually two playgrounds in one. The first is the original Fort Medford, a Native American themed wooden playground complete with teepees, totem poles,and Native American decor. The other is the “J and I Samost”, the more recent and modern wheelchair accessible playground. Fort Medford Playground is themed after a fort with ramps that lead up to decks with play panels on them. This park also includes swings and slides. Other components include an interactive musical wall, a sandbox, a sway boat and a roller slide that is designed for children with no lower body mobility. Biography Freedom Field is located behind Parkside Elementary School. Look for the entrance sign to Blackwell Park. During the school year, the playground is closed M-F 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. This incredible Landscape Structure’s PlayBooster® playground has a theme of “No child left behind.” The 1.5 acre area is inclusive and provides activities for all ages and abilities. The park includes many custom play events as well as The Rock and Spacenet™ Climbers. Custom safety surfacing makes the playground accessible for all. The playground consultant on this project was Countryside Play Structures.

Biography Freedom Park in Queensbury is a great playground for younger kids from toddlers to 9 years old. The ground is made from recycled tires and makes a soft bouncy landing ground for children. The entire playground is barrier free, so it is handicap accessible and also makes for great running – the children love to chase around the playground, through the tunnels, up the ropes and down the slides and ladders. There is a fabulous sandpit that the little ones will play in for hours. Kids also love to play under the playground and use their imaginations playing house. The playground has some tire swings and toddler swings as well as an outhouse, picnic tables and garbage cans.

This playground is easily accessible from the parking lot. Sensory equipment at this park includes sensory panels, ride-on bouncing animals, a sand pit, and tube slides.

Biography This is the site of the Rotary Club of Westfield’s signature project, a sensory garden that surrounds an all-inclusive playground, with several unique and interactive play features. The park is bordered by Cool Creek and serene woodlands and has a beautiful riparian way on the east side of the park. There are some minor wetlands, and the flora and fauna in this area make for a unique setting. An ongoing prairie restoration on the west side of Freedom Trail Park was started in 2010. During the design, the Hamilton County Autism Support Group (HCASG) provided guidance in making sure the features included were ones which individuals with autism would prefer, such as spinning and twirling structures. The all-inclusive play equipment was built so more than one individual utilizing a wheelchair can pass on the wide ramp system leading to all the play features. There are also accessible swings. The Westfield Rotary Club has planted over 2,000 plants and flowers along the pathways of the playground. These specialty garden plantings entice its visitor to experience four of the five senses, those being sight, sound, smell and touch. The colors of the flowers will have a big impact on children with autism. The bright colors of the flowers, orange, blue, green and yellow were specifically selected because they have a calming and creative effect on the brain. Two local Eagle Scouts added two sensory features to the play area, the interactive wind chime and four natural tee pees, which were completed in Summer 2011. These features afford children the opportunity to experience the sound of oversized wind chimes and sit enclosed in the tee pees covered with flowering vines. NOTE: The playground has a combination of Pour-in-Place surfacing and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.
