This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography The playground combines the spherical design of Evos® with the traditional PlayBooster® playstructure. Landforms were used to create elevation so that space wasn’t taken up by really long lengths of ramps. A gradually sloped boardwalk takes visitors to the top of a mound so that everyone can see the amazing views of the water and the city. Horizontal bars installed at varying heights were incorporated so that individuals working on building upper body strength can truly progress from one level of challenge to the next. Biography Parking in and around the park is very limited. There is a parking garage which for a 3 hour visit will $5.00 he new Mayor’s Grove Playground is a Boundless™ playground, which has sensory-rich features that allow children and caregivers of all abilities to interact with each other at his or her highest standard. It is an interactive playground that is accessible and fun for children of all abilities. On a Boundless™ playground, you will find: Play structures that support children’s development Universally accessible pathways and surfacing Swings and bouncers with back support NOTE: The surfacing is a combination of pour-in-place and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.

Biography The school was chosen as the grand prize winner of the “PLAYSKOOL Win a Boundless^™ Playground Essay Contest” to have a $300,000 Boundless^™ playground built in their community. The essay, submitted jointly by third-grade teacher Scott Mickey and parent Lisa Popovich, beat out almost 1,000 entries which were received from 44 states plus the District of Columbia during the summer and fall of 2006. The goal of the contest was to raise awareness that playgrounds should not exclude children with disabilities – instead, playgrounds can and should be places where children with and without disabilities can play side by side. McCullough’s Boundless^™ Playground is a wonderland of activities and measures approximately 27,000 square feet or 0.62 acres. The largest play area in the playground utilizes Wide Ramps, a ramp wide enough to allow children in mobility devices to pass each other so they never have to wait for the ramp to be clear to continue their play. Slides and climbers are placed at several different deck heights, allowing children the opportunity to develop skills, and then move up to the next level of challenge. The playground also features areas to promote imagination, sand and water play, social interaction, and strength and skill development. The entire space is covered with a mix of GT Impax surfacing including Poured in Place rubber, a single piece surface that is one of the best for mobility device access. It was built during the summer at a site previously designated as a practice field adjacent to the elementary school and centrally located for community use.

Notes The Renton Accessible Playground is an exciting joint effort between the City of Renton, the Renton School District, Renton Rotary and is also supported by multiple community funding partners and individual contributors. The accessible playground is being designed for all ages and abilities. It will share property between the new Meadow Crest Early Learning Center (formerly Hillcrest Early Childhood Learning Center) and the North Highlands Neighborhood Center. And there’s an official name,Meadow Crest Playground. Biography This playground opened in 2014. Biography From a reviewer in 5/15: ” Meadowlands Park is a Community Park with a tennis court, baseball diamond, soccer fields, a multi-purpose court with basketball nets, and a pathway. There is an accessible play area dedicated to Travis Carter that includes an accessible play structure and swings. Onsite parking is available. There are accessible swings. There are sensory components. Biography Designed as a Boundless Playground, the playground equipment is designed for 2 to 5-year-olds and 5 to 12-year-olds. It includes a play structure with a ramp wide enough for mobility devices. You’ll find accessible swings, along with traditional belt and bucket swings. And there also are a variety of drums and other noise-making play pieces. The surface under all of the equipment is rubber matting.

Biography The Mia Grace Place, built in 2008 by Site Specifics LTD with Miracle Recreation equipment has artificial play turf surfacing and is ramped all the way up to 8′. This playground is open to the public when school is not in session. Amelia Grace Place has Braille, Sign Language, and English to Spanish learning boards. This playground also offers all inclusive ramps that go throughout the whole structure. Tennis courts are connected to this playground. Biography Located close to the Olympic Oval–one of three playgrounds built in honor of the 2010 winter Olympics. Shane’s Inspiration and Cre8play worked together on an innovative playground. The playground is designed to look like a real sized Tug Boat. It includes 2 slides, an observation deck, a control room, a log ADA transfer station, interactive sounds, a bell to ring and it is all accessible by a wide ramp. Biography Mikey’s Place has two primary playscapes. The one for smaller children feels like it goes on forever and is in a well fenced area with other equipment and activities. The playscape for older children is quite high, and features both some unique climbing options and a more gradual ascent that even a 2 year old can manage. Note: The surfacing is a combination of Pour-in-Place rubber and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver throughout the playground. Biography Milagro Playground includes wheelchair accessible picnic tables, a 720-foot Challenge Circuit that surrounds the park, a Triple-Shootout basketball court with baskets of varying heights, seat walls and a Tot Lot. The Tot Lot includes a sand and water play area, swings for tots, climbing structure with slide, a teeter-totter, diggers, surfaces made of rubberized cement (Tot Turf) and a shade structure.
