This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

The PlayBooster® playstructure includes accessible ramps so those using mobility devices can access the fun, sensory-rich play panels, and many playground climbers and slides. Other multisensory playground components were included to make children and families of all abilities feel welcome as well as a Weevos® playstructure for kids ages 2-5. Biography From website, “Our plan is to build a playground with play options for all children. With a surface similar to astro-turf, the playground will be fully accessible to children in wheelchairs. Parents in wheelchairs will have the ability to join their kids and push them on the swings. The playground will have a high-backed see saw and merry-go-round, designed to support children with limited upper body strength, as well as high-backed swings. It will have a Cozy Dome—a climbing structure that also provides a good place for a child with autism to decompress and reduce excessive stimuli. There will be several playground pieces that can assist with vestibular stimulation through spinning. There will be metal slides that kids with cochlear implants can use (typical plastic slides have too much static), shade for kids who can’t have too much sun and braille and sign language panels for all kids to learn. It will be designed so that children in wheelchairs can climb up high (a priority for those in wheelchairs) and it will have a special “Sway Fun Glider,” a play area designed so that a child doesn’t have to be transitioned out of their wheelchair to play with their peers.’ Playground opened in fall 2016.

There are two playground areas and the first area in a public park in New Jersey to be designed specifically for handicapped children. The park includes two picnic areas with shelters that can be reserved and plenty of additional activities making it a good destination for a large group or picnic. Biography Playground includes: An outdoor musical station . The station incorporates a marimba, xylophone, rain wheel and tongue drums into one weatherproof structure, allowing several children to make music at one time. Adapted Swing Seats Phase II of the playground opened in the summer of 2017. Some of the new features include two long, parallel zip lines – one with a regular seat and one with an adaptive seat – an adaptive merry-go-round, a large saucer swing for reclining or multiple users, a ramped composite structure with many play items, and more music and sound toys. Easy access is ensured with the use of a smooth rubber safety surface for fall protection and equipment has been selected and designed to promote inclusive play.

Beilenson Park on Monday, June 9, 2008. The accessible playground at Beilenson Park has two separate play areas, one section for two to five-year-olds and two sections for five to twelve-year-olds. All of the areas have a “Maritime” theme and feature swings, ladders, a variety of balancing elements, climbers and slides. Special features to the 19,600-square-foot playground is an interactive drum play area and sensory wall. Other elements include spring toys, crawl tunnels, landscaping and drinking fountains. Enjoy the new 19,600-square-foot addition to a City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks facility in the San Fernando Valley – Lake Balboa. Included in the design is a lighthouse-themedLandscape Structures PlayBooster® playstructure, as well as other themed components throughout. A Sway Fun® glider, swings, climbers and slides offer lots of sensory experiences. The playground consultant on this project was RecWest Outdoor Products.

Biography Lake Waterford Park & Adaptive Recreation Complex is located on the corner of Pasadena Road and Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. This community park is 108 acres of diverse recreational and natural areas.There is a 12-acre lake where you may enjoy observing the waterfowl or doing a little shoreline fishing. Lake Waterford Park offers three pavilions that can be reserved in advance for large groups. Come enjoy playing on the “Boundless” playground nestled in the picnic area. Additional activities available in the park: tennis, basketball, football, softball and natural trails for hiking. The new adaptive recreation athletic field, Freedom Field has been completed and is scheduled by permit only. The adaptive recreation baseball field includes a multipurpose field overlay, which is covered with a rubberized, wheelchair accessible surface. The field will be utilized for Recreation and Parks adaptive recreation programs and accommodate a variety of activities, to include baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, track and field, and other fun activities and events. ADA parking and pathways will be installed to provide a high level of accessibility.
