This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography The playground opened in 2014. Some of the features of this Landscape Structure’s playground include: an OmniSpin Spinner, a We-saw with back support, roller slides, bouncers, inclusive swings, several sensory panels and monkey bars. A basketball court and tennis court are also on site. The playground is recommended for children ages 2-12 years old.

Biography The playground is loosely themed around a train trip that travels through a downtown (large composite structure), past a boat docked at the water’s edge and ending at a mountain (net climber). The poured-in-place surface reinforces the idea of the train trip, with “water”, “sand” and “train tracks” cut into the play area.

Biography Opened May 2015. 5,370 sq ft. of fun; barnyard/animal themed area accessible to children and caregivers of all abilities; fenced around to provide the utmost safety. Features: Safe, spongy surfacing that ensures mobility for children/adults in wheelchairs and walkers and for those who experience difficulty on uneven surfaces. Ramping systems from the bottom to the top of every play element, transfer stations, specialized seating, hand holds, and climbing system slanted to assist children’s climb and reach. Swings including adaptive swings (high backs) for children with low muscle tone and toddler swings. Stainless steel slides to enable children with Cochlear ear implants to enjoy the experience of sliding (plastic slides shorten out hearing devices) Sensory rich environment including musical elements. Play elements that promote parallel play; creating opportunities for children to play together. Adequate shading, especially for children who have difficulty regulating their bodily temperature. Numerous interactive panels fostering cognitive development designed to spark children’s imagination.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of playgrounds deny children with disabilities and critical illnesses the opportunity for exercise, entertainment, and social interactions other children enjoy. The Oak Brook Park District built the Oak Brook Sandlot, a Universal Playground filled with poured in place surfacing, double wide ramping and is fully fenced to ensure everyone has the opportunity to play and build meaningful relationships. This one of a kind playground has multiple slides, is fully ramped and has a dual track zip line. Come visit us to experience this universal playground for yourself! Biography Owen’s Playground (which opened in 2016) offers a recycled smooth rubber surface instead of wood chips, a relaxation station for reading, double-wide ramps, climbing structures, adaptive swings, wheelchair accessible play equipment, and two Gaga pits – a variant of dodgeball that is played with one ball.

Biography Hillcrest’s playground, which opened in 2016, offers something for all kids, no matter their interests or abilities. With a rubber surface instead of woodchips, double-wide ramps, and adaptive swings, it’s fully wheelchair accessible, and complete with merry-go-round, rocking bus, and climbing walls. A relaxation station allows quiet time for children who are over-stimulated to soothe themselves. Play panels, including a marble maze, provide hands-on activities for kids who want sensory play or independent games.

Biography Located on the south side of Waubonsie Creek on Pearce’s Ford, north of U.S. Route 34. A 1.6-acre park features an accessible playground with a poured-in-place rubberized surface overlooking the Waubonsee Creek and Waubonsee Greenway.The playground was a joint effort of the Oswegoland Park District and the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association.

Biography Playgrounds, Baseball Field, 1 Double Tennis Court, Volleyball Court , 2 Basketball Courts, There are three shelters available on a first come first serve basis, Restrooms, Electricity, Tables, Grills Pickleball Court. The City of Silvis in cooperation with Robo Gators project from Glenview Middle School, East Moline support a project to build an all-inclusive Merry-go-round at Schadt Park. The City of Silvis embraces this type of participation. Check website for progress.

Schoolhouse Manor has the following amenities: conservation area, creative play area, parking, shelter, sledding and walking paths. The shelter is available for rental.
