This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography This Landscape Structures playground was the result of the Park Cities Rotary Club Centennial Project gift to the City of Dallas. Nestled alongside Bachman Lake just east of the Bachman Recreation Center, it has a nautical theme and all of the events are accessible by wheelchairs utilizing the extensive ramp system. It has a custom Lighthouse, the exclusive Landscape Structures SwayFun glider, ships, a custom “Southwest Airlines” two seat tuffrider, and more. It’s a great place because you also get to watch airplanes land on the runway across the lake at Love Field! The park includes a pavilion for a picnic, and the jogging trail around Bachman Lake is between the playground and the lake. This is a beautiful, accessible playground for all abilities. Biography The playground at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is located just off the HBO Café. The spot is meant to be a relaxing place for patients and families. It is a place for kids of all abilities to play together. With a spongy fall surface throughout the grounds, kids are invited to steer a pilot’s wheel, peer through a periscope, sway back and forth on a wheelchair-accessible glider and prop themselves up with the help of strategically placed handle-bars to count on an abacus – activities that are physically and mentally challenging and fun. This is a Shane’s Inspiration Playground that opened in 2010 with equipment from Landscape Structures.

Some of the equipment is from Landscape Structure, the playground was built by volunteers and designed by Leathers and Associates.

Notes City Park was established as Liberty’s first park in 1949. It encompasses 12 acres in the heart of Liberty. It’s playground and sprayground are popular attractions for children, especially during the warmer months. This park features 2 Picnic Shelters (closed during construction) 1 Spray Ground 1 Playground 2 Horseshoe Pits 1 Soccer Field 1 Baseball Field 1 Softball/Multi-Use Field 1 Restroom Park Hours: Daily 6 AM – 10 PM Biography The inclusive playground in City Park opened at the end of 2021. Newly renovated City Park creates a play space for all abilities. New amenities include; spinners, swings, we-go-round, slides, 2-5 year old playground, 6-12 year old playground, climbers, sensory amenities, game tables, new restrooms, and new spray ground. Biography his sprawling Landscape Structures’ PlayBooster® playstructure is positioned next to a Miracle League baseball field, making the recreation area entirely inclusive. In addition to many sensory-rich, developmentally-appropriate and accessible play components, the structure incorporates CoolToppers® shade structures to protect children from harmful UV rays and helps them stay cool. The playground consultant on this project was Parkesol.

Biography The Miracle League at the Langham Creek Family YMCA in Houston, Texas, is an inclusive play environment featuring a PlayBooster® playstructure. The playground design is filled with inclusive playground components like the Sway Fun® glider, Rollerslide and Roller Table™, OmniSpin® spinner, Sensory Play Center® along with playground slides, climbers and sensory-stimulating activity panels. CoolToppers® shade products are integrated into the playstructure to keep children sun-safe all summer long while adding dimension and color into the landscape. Notes The Multigenerational Park and Universally Accessible Playground is home to historic Stearns Tavern, one of the oldest buildings in Worcester. Plans include to eventually have accessible bathrooms for individuals with disability. Dedicated in honor of the late State Representative John J. Binienda, Binienda Beach (formerly Coes Pond Beach) includes a bathhouse, swimming area and sandy beach, perfect for family outdoor activities. The beach is located on the western side of Coes Reservoir and serves as the headwaters of the Blackstone River. During the summer months, visitors can rent kayaks, paddle boats and paddle boards. Coes Reservoir is annually stocked with trout and is a favorite fishing spot among the locals. Non-motorized watercraft is allowed and informal launch sites are available at the John Binienda Memorial Beach and at the end of Circuit Avenue North. Biography Coes Park, opened in 2017 is a multi-generational, universally accessible playground off Mill Street, on the banks of Coes Pond. The park is sectioned into two, fenced in areas–one for the bigger kids and one for the littles although the younger ones can find lots to do and explore in the older kid’s area making this a great park for siblings. You will find a musical play area, “rock climbing” area, parent and child swings, lots of equipment for climbing and beautiful spots to enjoy a picnic. The wide paths, special play equipment, and rubber surface make the park accessible for those in wheelchairs and grandparents with walkers can enjoy getting up close to their grandchildren playing. It’s truly a park for everybody. The park provides recreational opportunities (passive and active), support facilities, ADA accessible walkways, a scenic overlook area, benches, landscape plantings, kiosks and signage. It includes 57 playground features, all of which are accessible. There also is a sledding hill, so you can have fun here all year-round!

Biography This Landscape Structure’s Playground includes an EVOS structure, accessible swings, as well as many other features. As can be seen in the pictures, the surfacing is Playground Grass. Upon entering the park, one can hear music playing in the rocks and bushes, usually oldies or kids’ sing-a-longs. There is a large sign with rules that include: “Explore. Laugh. Experiment. Run. Jump. Slide. Climb. Have fun.” With all of the different attractions, it really leaves you no option. While most parks have the usual swing-set, slide, and monkey bars, Common Ground takes things to a whole new creative level.The Play zones such as Adventure Canyon, Spider Web Peak, Butterfly Meadow, Fossil Beach, Gopher Mountain, Journey Plateau and Sculpture Gulch provide easy, intermediate and challenging play opportunities. This play area also features an inclusive PlayBooster® playstructure designed to welcome children and families of all abilities with its ramps, sensory-stimulating activities and a Sway Fun® Glider. Biography This all-inclusive playground, which opened in 2016, includes wheelchair swings, a four-seater seesaw, a sit-in MerryGo-Round, a rocking boat, double ramps and rubberized surfaces — all accommodations that provide an opportunity for individuals of all ages and abilities to play together outside. Biography Cooke School in Northville, Michigan, offers a fully inclusive and accessible playground for children ages 5 to 12. Kids are thrilled with the wide range of sensory-rich play activities like the Sway Fun® Glider, Rollerslide and OmniSpin® Spinner. Plus there are lots of playground climbers and many sensory play activity panels to spark the imagination. Before the PlayBooster® playstructure was installed, the student body didn’t have a place to gather and play outside. Now students even do their physical therapy on the playground. It’s become both a teaching tool and a recreation tool. Cooke School also included the HealthBeat® outdoor fitness system for more fitness-focused activity for ages 13+. Biography The playground opened in 2014 and has equipment from Landscape Structures. Some of the equipment is designed to support a child who may be unable to sit or stand on their own, or who might need other physical accommodations. There’s also equipment that addresses children who may be on the autism spectrum or who have sensory processing disorders. Cornelia’s playground is outfitted with bells, a wall with colorful marbles kids can spin, an area where large groups of kids can rock and sway, whether they are seated in a wheelchair, a bench or clinging to the side. Playground includes an EVOS climbing structure, a Sway Fun glider, a roller table. The surfacing is wood mulch (EWF) which make it more difficult for some people to maneuver through the playground.

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration and Landscape Structure’s playground opened in 2014. The Gig Harbor Maritime PlayZone project is an all-ability, all-inclusive play experience that gives every child a place to play as well as providing easy access for grown-ups of all abilities. The playzone includes an accessible fishing vessel representing the Gig Harbor fishermen of today, as well as other fun and challenging all-inclusive play equipment.
