This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Notes Located on the South Shore of Staten Island, this 139-acre park underwent a substantial renovation in 2004. It now features fields for softball, baseball, and soccer; a new playground with a spray shower and swings; two basketball courts; a bocce ball court; and a comfort station. Bloomingdale Park is also a great place to visit to get in tune with nature: It features lush woodlands filled with hiking and running trails. Biography This is a Level 1 Playground for All Children. Notes Amenities: Blue Mountain is among the City’s original parks and continues to be a vibrant community space. Within this beautiful urban forest setting, a network of paths lead the visitor under a canopy of tall Douglas Fir, Red Cedar, North Red Oak, and even Redwood trees. A variety of sport and recreation amenities, including a grass playing field, ball diamond and three tennis courts, invite both casual and organized play at the park. On warm summer days, the wading pool and spray park are popular meeting places for families. Biography The playground nearby provides a variety of accessible features: a rubberized safety surface, climbing ropes, roller slide, oodle swing, music chimes, and a practice bike path invite discovery and fun for all abilities.

Biography embroke Elementary School created the Bodies In Motion Learning Park to foster their mission of academic success in a multicultural learning environment accommodating individual learning styles through developmentally appropriate instruction. In addition to kindergarten through fifth grade general education programs, Pembroke has classrooms dedicated to providing services to students with severe disabilities and serves as the primary home of the Autistic Children Program. The Learning Park playground was designed in conjunction with WPL Site Design and Sparks @ Play LLC to provide opportunities for children of all abilities to play on the playground.

Notes This 98.0-acre site is located in the North Rosedale area northwest of downtown Gig Harbor. The property includes 76.0 acres of meadow, naturalistic pond, wetlands, and forest conservancy area. There are 22.0 acres of active recreation with a 375-foot baseball field, two 300-foot combination baseball and softball fields, an artificial turf soccer field, two tennis courts, a basketball court, a Boundless Playground which offers recreation for children of all abilities, one picnic shelter, several picnic areas, an outdoor performing arts amphitheater, an indoor pavilion, concessions, restrooms, drinking fountains, Heritage & Master Gardener Demonstration gardens and 4 miles of trails on the property. Biography This certified Boundless Playground opened in 2010. It was developed by The Greater Gig Habour Foundation and you can find additional photographs on their site. The playground includes a ramp structure, an accessible glider, a supported see-saw and rubber tile surfacing.

Notes AMENITIES 169.62 Acres, Baseball, Softball, Multi-Purpose Fields, Lighted Fields, Playground, Restrooms, Concessions, Pavilion, Outdoor Volleyball, Splash Pad, Disc Golf Biography The Miracle League of North Alabama was delighted to open its baseball complex in August 2012. The complex includes the Everybody Can Play playground, which features an inclusive PlayBooster® Vibe® playstructure in vibrant colors and many multi-sensory playground components. Especially unique to the complex is a concrete statue of Homer, The Miracle League’s official mascot, designed and sculpted by Landscape Structures. The playground also has a splash pad. Biography The Playground includes a sand area, a Sway Fun glider, adapted swings, a slide that has rollers to increase the sensory experience and tons of shade. A portion of the play equipment is from Landscape Structures. This is a Shane’s Inspiration playground. The playground consultant for this playground was RecWest Outdoor Products.

ThisLandscape Structures playground is aimed at accessibility for people of all ages with disabilities. The surfacing is recycled tires. There is a medium sized play structure which includes a roller slide and two low ramps. There is a Gazebo which provides some shade, a Sway Fun, accessible play panels, a large accessible swing, and other easily accessible items for gross motor play.

Notes California Park, acquired in 1967, is a 7.5-acre park located on S. 16^th Street. The California Community Center and Phillis Wheatley Elementary School are located nearby. The park contains ball fields, basketball courts, a multi-purpose field, tennis & volleyball courts, a playground and sprayground. Biography The playground which opened in May 2015 includes an Evos structure, a Sway Fun and swings. The surfacing is half pour-in-place and wood mulch (EWF), which may make it a little more difficult for someone who is using a wheelchair to maneuver throughout the entire playground.

Notes FEATURES & AMENITIES Toddler playground equipment for 2-5 year olds which is ADA accessible. Small ballfield area. Picnic tables as well as grill. A portable restroom may be available from May-August. 16 parking spaces as well as 2 handicap parking spaces. This park has a new trail that is lit in the winter for skiing and in the summer there are points of interest for viewing salmon spawning. You can bike, run, or walk on the trail. There are fishing seasons on Campbell Creek. You can obtain additional information from Fish and Game. Located in the Campbell Creek Greenbelt.

Notes Carpenter Park, located at 3498 E. 112th Ave., directly behind the Carpenter Recreation Center, is open to the public daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. In addition to the playground, there is a splashground, a boat house, a carousel, skatepark and trails. Sports facilities include: Basketball Courts Bocce Ball Horseshoe Pits–Please bring your own equipment. Shuffleboard–Please bring your own equipment. Sand Volleyball Courts–Please bring your own volleyball. Net is provided. Biography Opened September 30, 2009. The structures and independent play areas, designed by Habitat Systems Inc. and Landscape Structures, have many options for ground level play that are accessible, inclusive and FUN! Ground level play as opposed to ramp access. The accessible components were chosen by parents with physically challenged children and the therapists working with them. Path placement and other elements of the design were planned in order to facilitate a flow of inclusive play and social interaction. The playground features: touch panels, wind chimes, balance beam, spring and balance apparatus, toddler structure with swings, adapted swings, a First Nations Medicine Wheel, basketball court, shaded accessible picnic areas, and benches. The First Nations Medicine Wheel used in First Nations culture as a symbol of the life, health and values of an individual, community or Nation.

Biography To honor a 5-year-old boy who lost his life, his parents set out to build an inclusive playground at the elementary school he once attended. Working with their local playground consultant, General Recreation, the Hinishes determined what features were necessary and those they would include should they surpass their fundraising goal. The playground design was a fully-accessible PlayBooster® play structure, Sway Fun® glider, sensory play activity panels, the Rollerslide and Roller Table, plus all of the traditional playground pieces kids love. The Zack Hinish Foundation organized more than 70 volunteers who helped install the new playground over four days.
