This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography This is a Boundless™ Playground, funded in part by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation‘s Able to Play project in honor of the Foundation’s 75th anniversary. Biography This playground opened in 1956. Construction started in 1952 and was the brainchild of Archer Garner and Hank Ketcham, the creator of the famous Dennis The Menace comic strip. While the playground is not 100% accessible, much of it is and it includes a quiet area in the form of a maze. The playground has been updated several times since it opened and new inclusive play pieces have been added. While much of the original playground still exists, there are a lot of opportunities for inclusive play. The playground has many benches for parents to supervise and is fenced all around. This playground was ahead of its time and is a definite favorite among local children. In addition to the Boundless Playground and splash pad, he park includes an outdoor pool, toddler playground, regular playground, fishing lagoon for youngsters under 16 yrs. old, picnic areas, five lighted tennis courts, lighted softball field, hardball diamond, pavilion and lodge buildings. Biography The JCC is conveniently located in Stamford, Connecticut, at the corner of Newfield Avenue and Vine Road with easy accessibility to both the Merritt Parkway and the Connecticut Turnpike. The playground allows every child can reach the highest play deck. There are cozy spots where everyone can gather. Equipment includes swings and bouncers have back support and elevated sand tables and activity panels. The playground is built on two levels: Mikey’s Playground, the early childhood area for ages two to five on the upper level, and the Didi Wein Playground, for children five and older, on the lower level. Mikey’s Playground is named in memory of Michael Dorf, the late son of Fran and Bob Dorf. The lower playground is named for the late Didi Wein. Following her death in the late nineties, Didi’s friends not only donated the funds, but actually constructed the playground with their own hands. Biography Dilly’s Place was started with $20 and a prayer. It took 10 years to raise the funds to build this playground. Mission Statement “To seek and improve the health and welfare of the communities in and surrounding Conway Springs, Kansas and provide a safe, appealing and universally accessible playground for children of all ages and development. ” About This Cause We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that is all volunteer, non-political, subject to bylaws and is organized as charitable. This organization has built and all inclusive safe playground which means it is universally accessible and configured to support a child’s development. It was built where children of all abilities can play together. Funds were raised for ten years and built in 2019. For the last 8 years, Dilly’s Place provides a safe family Fun Day FREE to Special Needs Families at the local YMCA Camp Hyde. Families have come as far as Oklahoma, Missouri, and Nebraska. This is the only Family Fun Day in Kansas and the Surrounding States that it’s sole purpose is 4 hours of Family fun.

Biography This picturesque 28-acre public park in Huntley, Illinois, is home to the Discovery Zone, which opened in 2010. It’s basically a play village for toddlers and preschoolers – with a rubber-cushion surface covering most everything that’s not a sidewalk, which are done in concrete. And despite looking like a junior amusement park, there is no admission fee. Your kids can pretend to get their hair cut at Hoppy’s Barber Shop, or serve up imaginary ice cream cones at the Huntley Dairy Mart. (There’s an abacus for keeping track of orders and money!) They can scramble around playground equipment that looks like a firetruck, steer a “school bus” that rolls from side to side, ride in a playground train, play a variety of musical instruments, put mommy in the “zoo,” or practice their shot at a series of basketball hoops of different heights.. The playground has a fence all the way around it and pour-in-place rubber surfacing. Just outside the Discovery Zone is a small brick building that contains men’s and women’s restrooms. (No diaper changing station.) You’ll likely want to bring your lunch or at least a snack. There are several tables inside the Discovery Zone, and more options outside the wrought iron fence that encloses it. There is a: sandbox with dinosaur bones buried in the sand. a musical area where the kids can make noises, and if they step on certain spots on the ground, chimes will ring. a chalk wall to color on (bring your own chalk) a Bankshot basketball court with hoops of all heights with crazy backboards (bring your own ball)

Biography The playground has a rubberized surface and low-level play structures. It is geared towards toddlers and preschoolers with a huge emphasis on pretend play. The playground encourages interaction with the senses, including touch, sight and sound. There are sensors beneath the rubberized surface play musical notes when they’re pressed. When two or more children press the sensors at the same time, they play a melody. Children can pretend to get their hair cut at Hoppy’s Barber Shop, or serve up imaginary ice cream cones at the Huntley Dairy Mart. There is a firetruck and school bus, a playground train, musical instruments, a zoo, and basketball hoops at different heights. There is also a sand area. Bells actually sound at the railroad crossing, and there is a giant chalkboard.
