This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography Maryland State Parks have thirty-three accessible playgrounds across the state. All have been designed for children between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age. The ADA Access Specialist within MDNR Engineering/Construction, who also serves on MDNR Disabilities Advisory Council, indicated that the following playgrounds meet the Let Kids Play criteria for inclusion in this directory. You can find a map of each park by clicking on the park name. For more information about additional accessibility amenities such as cabins, camp sites, hunting areas, fishing piers, boat ramps, trails, picnic areas, and other adaptive recreation equipment, visit their Marylands’ Accessibility for All website. The Playground is located between the Houck Area accessible Bath House and Lake Picnic Area near the accessible Food Concession. Cunningham Falls State Park, located in the Catoctin Mountains, is known for its history and scenic beauty, as well as its 78-foot cascading waterfall. There is accessible access to the falls via a 300 yard long trail from Maryland Route 77. Cunningham Falls is located west of Thurmont MD, 18 miles north of Frederick MD.

Biography Students at Curtis School in Los Angeles, Calif., are connected with nature during recess each day. The school is home to a nature-inspired playground with PlayOdyssey® Tower, Netplex® and PlayBooster® playstructures. Elements like Palm Tree Accent post toppers, the custom tower roof and wood-grain panels provide more of the natural playground theme. In addition to the inclusive playground structures, freestanding playground components like the ZipKrooz™, Cozy Dome® and OmniSpin® spinner deliver more sensory-rich play experiences. Biography 40 percent of the Meeting Street campus is reserved for green space for outdoor play areas, accessible paths that wind through landscaped areas. Built in partnership with the Providence City Parks Department, the South Side Soccer Field at Meeting Street opened in 2009. Our fully accessible playground was completed this spring. Everything outdoors and inside Meeting Street is fully accessible so children with and without disabilities can learn and play together.

It is a Boundless™ Playground, funded in part by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Able to Play project in honor of the Foundation’s 75th anniversary. NOTE: The surfacing is a mix of pour-in-place rubber and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.

Along with the fully-accessible playground area, the complex also features: *Lions Narnia Braille Trail* with eight sensory stations along a quarter-mile, wheelchair-accessible Trail that tell visitors the story of Aslan, the lion in C.S. Lewis’Chronicles of Narnia fantasy. *Anderson Treehouse, a fully-accessible treehouse Palmer Center Foundation Amphitheater*, a fully-accessible facility able to host audiences from 200 to more than 1,000.

Biography This is the 28th universally accessible and inclusive playground to be developed by Shane’s Inspiration and the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. The equipment was built by Landscape Structures and features a sea-creatures theme. The playground incorporates some musical elements for kids to engage with. There is plenty of parking and a ton of space for running around. The tot park is separate from the main play equipment. This playground is not fenced. Equipment includes: Bridges, Bubble Windows, Climbers,Crawl Tunnels, Musical Elements, Play Panels, Pod Bridge,Pod Climbers, Ramps, Rubberized Surface, Slides, Talk Tubes, Tot-Park, Twister Slide

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration playground includes colorful, sensory-rich equipment such as musical instruments, buttons that emit sounds and chime panels, and swings or see-saws with high backs offer support. Canopies over the structures don’t just provide shade, but offer protection to those sensitive to heat or light because of medication. The equipment is from Landscape Structures and the playground consultant on this project was RecWest Outdoor Products.
