This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography This Landscape Structure’s Playground includes an EVOS structure, accessible swings, as well as many other features. As can be seen in the pictures, the surfacing is Playground Grass. Upon entering the park, one can hear music playing in the rocks and bushes, usually oldies or kids’ sing-a-longs. There is a large sign with rules that include: “Explore. Laugh. Experiment. Run. Jump. Slide. Climb. Have fun.” With all of the different attractions, it really leaves you no option. While most parks have the usual swing-set, slide, and monkey bars, Common Ground takes things to a whole new creative level.The Play zones such as Adventure Canyon, Spider Web Peak, Butterfly Meadow, Fossil Beach, Gopher Mountain, Journey Plateau and Sculpture Gulch provide easy, intermediate and challenging play opportunities. The playground consultant was Rep Services.

Sporting Center consisting of 8,000 s.f. furnished lobby area, restrooms, office, storage, canoe/kayak shop, kitchen and dining area along with @ 1900 s.f. furnished patio area all on the main floor, with a banquet room and veranda with seating for @ 200 located on the third floor. Golf Training Center (driving range, 18 hole tournament green, 3 chipping greens, open from 8:00AM to 9:00PM); Canoe/kayak launch; interactive slash fountain; banquet garden; wedding pavilion; (2) sand volleyball courts; (2) age appropriate playscapes; (20) picnic pavilions/BBQ grills, (6) of which have fishing docks; (3) miles of paved walking/jogging/bike trails and 19 acre lake. Biography Royal Palm Beach Commons Park is home to a fitness-focused playground designed for kids ages 5 to 12. Lots of net climbers engage kids’ whole bodies, while the Orbiter® and Gyro Twister® spinners and a variety of slides offer lots of fun. This play area also features an inclusive PlayBooster® playstructure designed to welcome children and families of all abilities with its ramps, sensory-stimulating activities and a Sway Fun® Glider. Biography Concord’s community playground is located at 120 Meriam Road, adjacent to the Ripley Public Schools Administration building, Concord Children’s Center and the Concord Integrated Preschool. Phase I was completed in 2013 includes: * A universally-accessible stonedust path leading from the Playscape entrance to a gathering circle with benches made from 19th-century ship timbers. * A *willow tunnel* comprising two tunnels, one large enough for a grown-up to walk through and a smaller adjoining one for the Playscape’s younger visitors to explore. Made of willow rods which root quickly, the tunnel will ultimately become a living part of the Playscape that changes with the seasons. * Large and small wooden *frog rasps* which make different sounds when a stick is run over them. Smaller rasps will be attached to trees, which larger ones will be affixed to the ground. * *Tree cookies* – sliced tree stumps that are used as stepping stones. Phase II was completed in 2015 includes: * The completion of the *universally-accessible stonedust path* and the installation of a guide rope to be used by the visually impaired and the elderly. * The construction of two landforms, one with benches, to be used for rolling, sledding, and sliding. * The installation in one of the landforms of an embedded slide which can be used by all children, as it is not necessary to climb a ladder to access it. * The addition of two accessible picnic benches. Donated by a local Eagle Scout, these benches have ends that are wider than average picnic tables, allowing a wheelchair to comfortably access the table. * A sand play area and raised “sand ship,” which can be accessed easily by children in wheelchairs and also provides a raised seating area for adults accompanying children at the Playscape. * A dry streambed with a bridge. Phase III completed in the Spring of 2017 includes: * An inclusive merry-go-round accessible to all, including children in wheelchairs, who will be able to roll right on to the merry-go-round in their chair, rather than being transferred from their chair to a seat. * A *community swing* to allow a group of children, including children with disabilities, to enjoy swinging together.

Biography Connor’s Place is a playground and picnic area that is open to the general public. The site includes ample seating areas, as well as a fully covered pavilion that is available for rental. Biography Cooke School in Northville, Michigan, offers a fully inclusive and accessible playground for children ages 5 to 12. Kids are thrilled with the wide range of sensory-rich play activities like the Sway Fun® Glider, Rollerslide and OmniSpin® Spinner. Plus there are lots of playground climbers and many sensory play activity panels to spark the imagination. Before the PlayBooster® playstructure was installed, the student body didn’t have a place to gather and play outside. Now students even do their physical therapy on the playground. It’s become both a teaching tool and a recreation tool. Cooke School also included the HealthBeat® outdoor fitness system for more fitness-focused activity for ages 13+. Notes Park Features: 24 acres Full court basketball court Outdoor swimming pool Sprayground Small picnic shelter with grill Medium picnic shelter with grill Playground units with swings(for children 2-5 yrs.old and 5-12 yrs. old) Walking trail Biography Cordelia Park is a great neighborhood park located in the Villa Heights neighborhood. There are two separate play areas in this park. The largest one located next to the parking lot includes a rubberized surface great for walkers and wheelchairs. The climber includes a ramp allowing wheelchairs access to some of the slides and equipment. The lower playground is accessible via ramp and includes climbers and both traditional and an adapted swing. Mecklenburg County Parks and Rec says, “Inclusive playgrounds are for children of all abilities. The surface is appropriate for wheelchairs and walkers and the equipment is accessible via ramps. Adapted swings are appropriate for children who may still need the safety of a shoulder strap and high seat back. Inclusive playgrounds also contain sensory equipment such as equipment that provides unique visual, tactile, and auditory stimulation.” *Note: The playground surface is a combination of pour-in-place rubber and wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.*

Biography The playground opened in 2014 and has equipment from Landscape Structures. Some of the equipment is designed to support a child who may be unable to sit or stand on their own, or who might need other physical accommodations. There’s also equipment that addresses children who may be on the autism spectrum or who have sensory processing disorders. Cornelia’s playground is outfitted with bells, a wall with colorful marbles kids can spin, an area where large groups of kids can rock and sway, whether they are seated in a wheelchair, a bench or clinging to the side. Playground includes an EVOS climbing structure, a Sway Fun glider, a roller table. The surfacing is wood mulch (EWF) which make it more difficult for some people to maneuver through the playground.

Notes In 1963, Shirley Ann Williams and her mother moved to the O’Fallon neighborhood, where she lived in the same house until her demise on January 27, 2013. During this time, she was a founding member of the O’Fallon Community Organization. She also served as the organization’s treasurer, historian and all other capacities to make it one of the most outstanding neighborhoods in North St. Louis. Further, Shirley Ann volunteered with many political campaigns, nationally and locally and was active member of the 21st Ward.Shirley Ann found time to tutor children, be involved in the African American Genealogy Society here in St. Louis and attend most cultural events in our city. On the groundbreaking February 22, 2014 the name of the playground was announced as Cornerstone Playground. This playground is dedicated to Shirley Ann Williams. Biography It features an outer space theme that includes a rocket ship, airplane, rubber tile safety surfacing, swings, net climber and is an “out of this world experience it”

Biography The Inclusive Playground is located in the Knoll and Eucalyptus area of the park. The accessible playground was built by theAmerican Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as part of their annual meeting, in partnership with KaBOOM! In addition to wheelchair ramps, the playground features braille signs, a scent garden, a swing with a full-body harness and extra wide slides that can accommodate parents holding children.

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration and Landscape Structure’s playground opened in 2014. The Gig Harbor Maritime PlayZone project is an all-ability, all-inclusive play experience that gives every child a place to play as well as providing easy access for grown-ups of all abilities. The playzone includes an accessible fishing vessel representing the Gig Harbor fishermen of today, as well as other fun and challenging all-inclusive play equipment. Notes DIRECTIONS: From Rt. 80, Take Exit 299 (Tannersville) Make a right off the exit ramp onto 715 North. Take your first left (at the light, just before the Crossings Factory Outlets) onto Sullivan Trail. Follow Sullivan Trail approximately 1 mile. The Park is on the right across from Barley Creek Brewing Company. FROM ROUTE 611 North. Take Left at 715 S. First right onto Sullivan Trail. Follow Sullivan Trail approximately 1 mile. The park was opened in 1978 and offers three ball fields, one soccer field, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, four pavilions- including grills, well-equipped playgrounds, rest rooms, and nature trails.
