This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography The playground features specialized swings that accommodate wheelchairs without a person needing to leave their chair. The playground also includes stations for sensory play, swings for disabled students who do not need a wheelchair, a slide that is wheelchair accessible, a large “boat” that glides back and forth and a rubber surface that makes it easier for wheelchairs to get around. Notes South Glenmore Park in Calgary’s southwest is the area surrounding the south side of the Glenmore Reservoir which includes the Weaselhead Natural Area and has numerous trails and pathways, tennis courts, playgrounds and the Variety Spray Park. Park features Picnic area & shelter Playgrounds Spray park Tennis courts Polo field Washrooms (seasonal) Water fountains (seasonal) Bike and hiking trails Sailing school, boat rentals (Glenmore Sailing School) Cross-country skiing Hiking trails Biography It was the first barrier-free spray park in Calgary when it opened in the summer of 2017. The goal of the new space was to increase accessibility and inclusivity for all kids at the park. The playground has Landscape Structure’s equipment that include a Roller Table, Omnispinner, and a post and platform structure with a slide.

The universally accessible playground, designed by Shane’s Inspiration, will bring new recreational opportunities to youth of all abilities within this community.

Biography The universal access playground which opened in 2014 includes an Omni Spin, double slides, a roller table, double wide ramps on the ramped structure,accessible swing seats, interactive play panels, music and nets under the ramps for hanging out. The wading pool features a waterfall and spray structure that looks like the rock of the river bluffs; benches surround the tree-shaded pool. Biography Warriors’ Path is the only Tennessee State Park with a Boundless Playground – where children of all physical and mental abilities can play together. Other unique features throughout the park that are fully accessible include: the Lions Narnia Braille Trail with eight sensory stations along a quarter-mile that tell visitors the story of Aslan of the Chronicles of Narnia, the Anderson Treehouse which is a fully-accessible tree house and the Palmer Center Foundation Amphitheater which can host audiences of up to 1,000 people.

Biography This Shane’s Inspiration and Landscape Structure’s playground opened in 2014. The Play 4 All playground is an “inclusive” playground. Every part of the park is accessible by a wheelchair. One piece of equipment is a spaceship that has a spot open for a child in a wheelchair to ride while it rocks. The park also has a sand pit where there are dinosaur bones in the sand, music equipment that helps kids with sensory problems and more. Kids ages 5 to 12 can roll, jump and climb aboard this PlayBooster® playstructure that features quirky UFO roofs and satellite toppers. The moon and stars on the CoolToppers® shade system fit right in. Moon-rock steppers and a concrete solar system offer educational activities along with tactile experiences. Notes Park includes: Childrens play area, basketball courts (unlighted/outdoor). Biography This is a Shane’s Inspiration Playground. Kids ages 5 to 12 visit this jungle-themed playground for spectacular sensory and inclusive play fun. A custom Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) sensory wall morphs from a tree into an elephant, with a leopard and other animals hidden within. Kids are encouraged to climb aboard these custom animals and nature-inspired rock climbers, breeze down the Roller and Cloudburst® Slides and enjoy the Sway Fun® Glider with all of their friends. Biography The playground features equipment from Landscape Structures and is located next to a community center and walking path, the play area helps promote health and fitness for all. And a forest of CoolToppers® Full Sails keeps everyone comfortable as they play. The playground consultant for the project was Rep Services. In addition to the playground Westwind Lakes Park includes Fruit and Spice Park, the Deering Estate, Metro Zoo, and the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
