This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography The toddler playground opened in 2010 and was the first toddler playground integrating both inclusive and natural play elements in Minnesota. Designed by Landscape Structures Inc., our new playground is custom designed with every toddler in mind. The equipment is specifically for children 16 months to three years, at all stages of physical, cognitive and social development The layout provides the perfect balance of open space to run, jump and roll as well as fun play components that provide the “just-right challenge” for everyone St. David’s Center features a state-of-the-art playground developed for both typically developing children and children with special needs. MeMe’s Playground is located on the northern perimeter of St. David’s Center (near Plymouth Road) and is open to the public after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends.

Biography The playground, which opened in 2015, has open space to encourage running and jumping as well as playground structures that are inspired by nature. It’s designed for children of all abilities, including those in wheelchairs and those with autism. The playground is designed for children aged three to ten. The playground is open to the community on weekends and night weekdays. The playground is connected to a 2.5-acre DNR-certified school forest, which encourages kids to play with sand, rocks, leaves and logs. St. David’s Center officials say that playing and exploring the outdoors is an important part of the learning experience for kids at the center.

Notes The park underwent a renovation in the summer of 2013 that included the implementation of fully-accessible playground structures for all abilities ages 2-12, and resurfacing of the basketball and tennis courts. Sunnyside is the southernmost park in the District. Biography This Riverside Homeowners Association features two different play areas. Sunset Park has a PlaySense® play structure designed for 2- to 5-year-olds, and Sun Canyon installed a PlaySense play structure for kids ages 5 to 12. Both play areas welcome children of all abilities. In addition to the inclusive play playground, swings were included to provide the high-flying fun that children crave.

Biography This playground was built over a week with around 300 volunteers. The design and the assistance with community build was done by Leathers and Associates. Among the attractions: an asparagus climbing forest; a broccoli tree house; a strawberry cottage; an artichoke amphitheater; a spinach harvest rock climbing wall; a berry produce stand; a lettuce maze; and a lettuce triple slide.

Biography The playground features a splash pad in the center. Surrounding the splash, is a ramped structure for 5-12 year olds, a ramped structure for 2-5 year olds, swings, a music area, T-Rex,an Areoglider and a NEOs game. Notes Biography The Teresa Cameron playground is the heart of PlayRights mission. The playground originally conceived by local Kiwanians was over 15 years in the making. Over 150 community volunteers participated in the four day build for this project. Features include: concrete sidewalk attaching the playground borders to existing paved walking trails and parking at the nearby community centre. The playground also feature 45% rubberized surface, with the Remaining base comprised of Fibar. Multiple ramps over accessible entry on the equipment from both the north and south sides. There are also staged transfer points along the length of the main component. A tapered rockwall leads to multiple sensory panels including musical instruments, colour wheels, and Braille panels. This playground also features a “rolling” boat apparatus, and a climbing netplex component. Also included at this site is a separate structure specifically designed for 18 month to 4 year olds. This project was made possible by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, The Kiwanis Club of Ingersoll, Amico Infrastructures, Ingersoll Community Foundation, and the town of Ingersoll.

Biography The playground opened in September 2016. There are chair swings along with typical swings; a chair zip line, next to a typical zip line; and the main structure doesn’t have rope ladders or other moving objects that could prevent a person with disabilities or a small child from using it. There is merry-go-round was designed to be wheelchair-transferable. There is a sensory wall. The playground was developed by Hope Helps which is dedicated to promoting local scholarships, research & advocacy to those individuals diagnosed with autism and their families.

Notes Directions to the park: From HWY 99, take the Olive Drive exit and head west on olive drive. Take a right at Fruitvale Avenue. Fruitvale/Norris Park is located on the southeast corner of Fruitvale Avenue and Norris Road. The park is 17.6 acres and includes the following amenities. Four baseball diamonds (two lighted) Multi-purpose field Two basketball courts Two tennis courts Two horseshoe pits Restrooms Family picnic pads Two group picnic shelters Children’s play area Open play area Recreation building Mature shade Biography The Fruitvale Norris Universal Playground is a custom Playworld tree house themed play structure set on a poured-in-place rubber surface. The 2-12 age playground is nestled within a mature park and is in close proximity to our accessible Universal Ball Diamond. Components of the playground include 12″ and 24″ platforms with easy to reach guard rails on each side, a wheelchair accessible ramp and a short length slide. Activity panels include drum and chime panels, a nature search-and-find game with nature sounds and the quintessential steering wheel at an accessible height. One of two key features is the Aero Glider, a hybrid swing & teeter-totter that allows for a full 5′-0″ wheelchair turning radius and enough room for two wheelchair users to sit side-by-side. It also includes seats and exterior ride space to encourage cooperation and teamwork among children of all ages and abilities. The second key feature is the Cozy Cocoon, a specifically designed sphere with autism in mind. This sphere is fun for all children and is an enclosed space with windows to allow for a child to ‘escape’ when overstimulated. The Cocoon sways, rocks and spins within a limited area and has helpful grips for smaller hands to provide easier entry and exit.

Notes This playground and spray park are part of the huge Chinook Winds Regional Park complex. The park area is still being developed. There is currently a skate park, a number of baseball diamonds and a hockey rink with boards that contains basketball courts in the warmer months. A seasonal concession with washrooms is opening this summer (2012) located between the spray park and playground. Biography This playground features preschool structure with steering wheel and double slide; school-age structure with slide and climbing wall; wave balance beam; 2 bowl spinners; tri-motorcycle bouncer; 4 swings (2 saucer swings); 2 stand spinners; large ring spinner; surf board. The ground floor of this playground is completely accessible. Although there is nothing that could be directly accessed from a wheelchair, you could get right up to the play on all items. There are also many items that could be accessed by people who could be transferred or just had low motor skills. There are many things that swing, spin or bounce for children who benefit from those types of vestibular motion. The large school-aged climber has stairs so older children with low motor skills could still get to the top. The sprayground features: many small sprays; two water cannons; 2 tall water dumping towers; musical piano sprayer; hoop sprayer.

The park is open to the public during daylight hours. Visitors are greeted with a one-of-a-kind sculpture. This sculpture was created by local artist, Bill Kolok, from refurbished wheelchair wheels. Like all the amenities in the park, this sculpture blends aesthetic beauty with interactive design- spin the wheels to hear all the fun sounds they make. There is a play structure where children of all ability levels can play alongside one another as equals. Slides, tunnels, and obstacle course features make this playground a fun challenge for our more able-bodied visitors as well. There is a large table with stackable blocks. Biography There are two playgrounds in New Orleans City Park, one for ages 5-12 and this one for 2-5. Featuring a custom Clatterbridge handrail specifically designed for 2-5 years and also a Transfer Module for ADA accessibility. The structures were installed over a concrete base with a poured-in-place rubber surfacing.
