This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Notes Avenue Park offers picnic areas, two universally accessible playgrounds, plenty of walking paths, interactive musical instruments, and a skate park. Biography The 4th Avenue Park, located in Los Angeles County, celebrates America’s movement West with this historically themed playground design. Kids of all abilities can join a covered-wagon caravan, then stand lookout at the top of the O.K. Corral fort maze. A TuffRider® Horse provides a great getaway. Biography “A Dream Come True” Playground is located off of Neff Avenue on Thomas Bowers Circle. This playground is a totally accessible/inclusive playground with many unique and one-of-a-kind features. The playground has separate equipment for 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds plus more fun and exciting equipment. Features include a rock, rainbow arches, shade structures, roadway, hammock swing, draw wall, pavilion, and family comfort stations that are fully accessible. The comfort stations will close for the winter months and will open again in the spring. The park will remain open year round unless the temperature is 32 degrees or below, or the ground is frozen. Biography A very small accessible playground \ is located on South Ridge Drive in Allegheny County’s North Park. The playground features double-wide ramps, specialized swings, handle bars, climbing walls and platforms capable of accommodating two passing wheelchairs. Unlike other rainbow-colored slides and rides in the park, the all-inclusive equipment has a black-and-gold Pittsburgh theme.

Biography Tucked away in Lincoln Park, Adams Playground is truly a treasure in the community and welcomes neighbors into the park year-round. There is a water playground to cool off in and a newly renovated playground for families to gather. From Chicago Parent, “Wend your way across Armitage and up a quiet, dead-end section of Seminary and you’ll find this unexpected treasure of a playlot. Though small, this beautifully landscaped, soft-surface, ADA-accessible lot has all sorts of bells and whistles. Anchored by a fieldhouse at one end that has public restrooms and rentable party rooms, the lot has a tree-shaded picnic area, kid-sized basketball bucket with plenty of rubber balls to shoot and an umbrella-sheltered sand play area full of shovels, dump trucks and digging toys. There’s a section of swings, jungle gym and climbing area, and at the far end-though you might have to wait until next summer to try-a water playground with multiple slides and fountain features.”

Biography Adventure Hollow Playground was built in memory of 1-year-old Noah Bourdon, who died in August 2006 when he fell from a playscape at Baldwin’s Pond and struck his head. He was the son of Sarah Bourdon and Chris Bourdon, the city’s recreational supervisor. The barrier-free playground is near Hubbard Park’s swimming pool. It is 13,000 square feet and features areas for different age groups. Playground includes climbing rocks, a ramped structure, accessible swing seat, climbing net, and musical instruments. It is a fenced playground. The surfacing is primarily wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.

Notes Adventure Park includes Adventure Zone Playground, the New Fitness Trail, Volleyball Courts, Snow-Tubing Hills and more. The entire park is an accessible playground that allows all children, regardless of their ability, to play side by side. It is the result of hundreds of individuals and businesses partnering together for a better community. Biography The playground includes, slides, climbing areas, swings, monkey bars, sliding poles, a toddler area, maze, games, and much more. So what are you waiting for? Bring your kids and enjoy the day here at the playground. The playground is part of a 53 acre community park that has been in development by Capital Area Christian Church and includes picnic pavilions, soccer fields, a winter recreation area, and coming soon, volleyball courts and the Adventure Fitness Trail! This is a Leathers and Associates designed playground.

Biography Adventure Playground was built by 3000 volunteers over a six day period. This one‐of‐a‐kind project was designed with the help of local schoolchildren and includes a castle, pirate ship, tree house,music area, and much more. The playground area occupies nearly 20,000 square feet, and adjoining parkland with picnic tables,green space, and shady benches creates an atmosphere the whole family can enjoy. The playground was designed by Leathers and Associates.
