This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography “A Dream Come True” Playground is located off of Neff Avenue on Thomas Bowers Circle. This playground is a totally accessible/inclusive playground with many unique and one-of-a-kind features. The playground has separate equipment for 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds plus more fun and exciting equipment. Features include a rock, rainbow arches, shade structures, roadway, hammock swing, draw wall, pavilion, and family comfort stations that are fully accessible. The comfort stations will close for the winter months and will open again in the spring. The park will remain open year round unless the temperature is 32 degrees or below, or the ground is frozen. Notes Park Offers: Basketball Courts Playgrounds Spray Showers Water Fountains Biography This is a LEVEL 2 (as designated by NYC Parks) accessible playground which can include accessible swings and/or ramped play equipment, transfer platforms, and ground level play features. These playgrounds can also include accessible amenities, which can include drinking fountains and comfort stations. All NYC playgrounds have pour-in-place rubber or tiles for surfacing. This playground does NOT have an adapted swing seat.

Notes Adventure Park includes Adventure Zone Playground, the New Fitness Trail, Volleyball Courts, Snow-Tubing Hills and more. The entire park is an accessible playground that allows all children, regardless of their ability, to play side by side. It is the result of hundreds of individuals and businesses partnering together for a better community. Biography The playground includes, slides, climbing areas, swings, monkey bars, sliding poles, a toddler area, maze, games, and much more. So what are you waiting for? Bring your kids and enjoy the day here at the playground. The playground is part of a 53 acre community park that has been in development by Capital Area Christian Church and includes picnic pavilions, soccer fields, a winter recreation area, and coming soon, volleyball courts and the Adventure Fitness Trail! Biography Adventure Playground was built by 3000 volunteers over a six day period. This one‐of‐a‐kind project was designed with the help of local schoolchildren and includes a castle, pirate ship, tree house,music area, and much more. The playground area occupies nearly 20,000 square feet, and adjoining parkland with picnic tables,green space, and shady benches creates an atmosphere the whole family can enjoy. The playground was designed by Leathers and Associates.

The playground includes a preschool play structure with a roller slide, periscope and music chimes. The school-aged play structure has a triple slide and climbing mountain. Biography The All-Access to Play playground includes stainless steel slides and adapted swings. The highlight of this playground is the spray fountain which is multi-purpose as well as multi-seasonal. There is a stone wall seating area surrounding the plaza. This area is a lot of fun with bronze ants climbing upon the wall. The stone wall area also has incomplete nursery rhymes written on it for new readers to enjoy filling in or caregivers sharing in the fun. During colder months the plaza turns from water into an area where children still play around whimsical features or enjoy the entertainment of a professional performance. There is a changing room. Biography The playground was carefully designed for the enjoyment of children of all physical capabilities providing the chance to play, imagine and soar. It offers an elaborate wooden play structure of tunnels, bridges, towers, swings and rings built over soft sand. A parent who visited this playground reported, “We drove over an hour to get there and it was all for nothing. The park didn’t even have adaptive swings. It was all sand which was nearly impossible to push her through. None of the structures could accommodate her wheelchair whatsoever. We were disappointed! “

Notes A prominent feature of the park is the the convenience of being able to play with your child at the park and explore the library without having to move your car! Biography Angel Park is a all-inclusive playground built by the greater Perry Hall community in 2016. Designed by 4,500 children and the professionals at Leathers & Associates. Angel Park is the County’s largest all-inclusive playground specifically designed to accommodate children with special needs by eliminating physical and social barriers to inclusion. The two main components of the park are the playground and amphitheater. The playground includes a wheelchair-accessible “shaky bridge,” a Braille panel, therapeutic swings, 30-foot accessible zip lines, as well as quiet spaces for children with autism and other conditions. The storybook theme features a fire truck, pirate ship, castle, tree house and music stations. Local elements include a seafood store, a Terps turtle, a Police station, an ice cream shop and more.

Biography Annie’s Playground has several unique features including a treehouse, amphitheater/outdoor classroom, puppet theatre, dragon and elephant slides, baseball area and Memorial Garden. Surrounding the playground in Edgeley Grove Park, are sports complex, ma and pa walking trails, and several picnic areas. Over a thousand people worked round the clock for weeks to build the playground from the ground up. Several artists from the area spent countless hours painting beautiful paintings on the playground equipment. This is a Leathers and Associates playground.

Biography ARC Park is an all inclusive playground that includes multiple GameTime play structures, ramps for full accessibility, rubber safety surfacing, double saucer swing, playful art pieces, shade and other site furnishings. The park has additional signage and is beautifully landscaped. Special features include: Three state-of-the-art playgrounds for toddlers, school-aged kids and every-age An abundance of swings, including a wheelchair-accessible glider and a hammock-like Biggo Swing Recycled, poured-rubber safety surfaces throughout the park A wheel-chair accessible treehouse with an extra-wide ramp and a four-ton, re-purposed eucalyptus stump A custom-built, multi-sensory wall with panels that stimulate touch, hearing and sight A play house, a small stage, water troughs and music instruments for creative play Accessible fitness equipment and a multi-purpose playing court Water misting stations A large, shaded pavilion with nine picnic tables A family restroom with an adult-sized changing table Charging stations for electric wheelchairs

Notes Includes: Shaded structure 5-12 year old playground 2-5 year old playground musical instruments ramped structure climbers Note: There is a combination of surfacing some of which is more difficult for people using wheelchairs to manuever Biography The playground displays bright, primary colors and features wide ramps, which allow two wheelchairs to pass each other, and accessible decks that allow children in mobility devices to reach the highest play components, a RockScape climber, and many ground level activities, including GTJams musical play, for those who are more comfortable using lower play components. The structure is also covered in GTShade to provide protection from the sun on hot days. To complement the large, school age, accessible structure, a smaller unit was also installed nearby for preschool children ages 2-5, as well as several freestanding events, such as an ADA accessible stock car and a whirlwind seat. Engineered Wood Fiber and areas of colorful Poured Rubber were used as safety surfacing to allow impact attenuation from falls and help prevent injury.

Notes Features: a tot lot rock-climbing wall orange, green and purple play structures a play gym a jungle gym with slides. Biography AAOS partnered with the Friends of Balboa Park and the Neighborhood Parks Department, KaBOOM! and received help from San Francisco’s Recreation and Park Department as well as the City of San Francisco to build this playground as part of their annual meeting. The largest piece of equipment boasts rock walls and climbing nets, two slides, a bridge, an alphabet board translated into sign language, and a wheelchair-accessible ramp. The new playground also has a swing set, a jungle gym with plastic letters on its side to help children learn their ABCs, and a mini yellow school bus.
