This directory lists playgrounds that have inclusive and accessible features. Yes, we would all love to have the perfect inclusive playground in our neighborhood. But we know that is not reality. Here you can find the best of the best as well as playgrounds that have added accessible swing seats or other accessible feature.

We know that it is difficult to push a wheelchair through wood mulch (EWF) and we have done our best to let you know about the surfacing.

In the BIO section, you will find a description of the playground. In the NOTES section, you will find information about the park the playground resides.

All of the playgrounds (at the time of publication) are open to the public. Any of the playgrounds located at schools, you can assume are open afterschool and on weekends. You may want to call the school to check on the opening times.

We have done our best to give as much information as we can find to describe the playgrounds. But we cannot visit all of these playgrounds, so please let us know what we are missing by submitting the park using the button below.

Biography The accessible part of the park features a zip line, seesaw for up to four, swings accommodating every child, a wide rollerslide, and special panels, including an interactive Braille clock and wind chimes. For parents there are many benches and the playground in fenced in. Notes Features: Two little league fields, street hockey court, tennis court, basketball court and football field One of the baseball diamonds was named for Ray Dunn, a coach and mentor to thousands of Quincy Point youngsters. There is also a memorial stone in honor of David and Stephen Pitts, two Quincy Point brothers who fought in Vietnam.

Biography There are separate play structures for ages 2-5 and 5-12. There is completely accessible rubber surfacing, several slides, climbers, play panels, picnic tables, benches, tot and ADA swings, a rocket ship and other riders, a merry-go-round and more. Notes The Multigenerational Park and Universally Accessible Playground is home to historic Stearns Tavern, one of the oldest buildings in Worcester. Plans include to eventually have accessible bathrooms for individuals with disability. Dedicated in honor of the late State Representative John J. Binienda, Binienda Beach (formerly Coes Pond Beach) includes a bathhouse, swimming area and sandy beach, perfect for family outdoor activities. The beach is located on the western side of Coes Reservoir and serves as the headwaters of the Blackstone River. During the summer months, visitors can rent kayaks, paddle boats and paddle boards. Coes Reservoir is annually stocked with trout and is a favorite fishing spot among the locals. Non-motorized watercraft is allowed and informal launch sites are available at the John Binienda Memorial Beach and at the end of Circuit Avenue North. Biography Coes Park, opened in 2017 is a multi-generational, universally accessible playground off Mill Street, on the banks of Coes Pond. The park is sectioned into two, fenced in areas–one for the bigger kids and one for the littles although the younger ones can find lots to do and explore in the older kid’s area making this a great park for siblings. You will find a musical play area, “rock climbing” area, parent and child swings, lots of equipment for climbing and beautiful spots to enjoy a picnic. The wide paths, special play equipment, and rubber surface make the park accessible for those in wheelchairs and grandparents with walkers can enjoy getting up close to their grandchildren playing. It’s truly a park for everybody. The park provides recreational opportunities (passive and active), support facilities, ADA accessible walkways, a scenic overlook area, benches, landscape plantings, kiosks and signage. It includes 57 playground features, all of which are accessible. There also is a sledding hill, so you can have fun here all year-round!

Biography Concord’s community playground is located at 120 Meriam Road, adjacent to the Ripley Public Schools Administration building, Concord Children’s Center and the Concord Integrated Preschool. Phase I was completed in 2013 includes: * A universally-accessible stonedust path leading from the Playscape entrance to a gathering circle with benches made from 19th-century ship timbers. * A *willow tunnel* comprising two tunnels, one large enough for a grown-up to walk through and a smaller adjoining one for the Playscape’s younger visitors to explore. Made of willow rods which root quickly, the tunnel will ultimately become a living part of the Playscape that changes with the seasons. * Large and small wooden *frog rasps* which make different sounds when a stick is run over them. Smaller rasps will be attached to trees, which larger ones will be affixed to the ground. * *Tree cookies* – sliced tree stumps that are used as stepping stones. Phase II was completed in 2015 includes: * The completion of the *universally-accessible stonedust path* and the installation of a guide rope to be used by the visually impaired and the elderly. * The construction of two landforms, one with benches, to be used for rolling, sledding, and sliding. * The installation in one of the landforms of an embedded slide which can be used by all children, as it is not necessary to climb a ladder to access it. * The addition of two accessible picnic benches. Donated by a local Eagle Scout, these benches have ends that are wider than average picnic tables, allowing a wheelchair to comfortably access the table. * A sand play area and raised “sand ship,” which can be accessed easily by children in wheelchairs and also provides a raised seating area for adults accompanying children at the Playscape. * A dry streambed with a bridge. Phase III completed in the Spring of 2017 includes: * An inclusive merry-go-round accessible to all, including children in wheelchairs, who will be able to roll right on to the merry-go-round in their chair, rather than being transferred from their chair to a seat. * A *community swing* to allow a group of children, including children with disabilities, to enjoy swinging together.

Biography Located on the grounds of Hollis Elementary School, this public playground houses a variety of smooth plastic structures for kids to climb over, through and around. It is right off Washington Street, but enclosed by a sturdy fence. There are bucket swing seats and a Sway Fun Glider. Benches are also strategically located for parents to watch their kids play. Parking is available in the school’s lot. The surfacing is wood mulch (EWF) which may make it more difficult for a person using a wheelchair to maneuver through the playground.

It has double wide ramps so wheel chairs can pass each other, all steel design, GTImpax Turf which is a synthetic turf safety surfacing. It has a 12′ fall height meaning it protects kids from broken bones and concussions if they (God forbid) fall from the e It has ADA swings too. Everything is in a natural color scheme that blends with the Historic Kennedy Park landscape which is an Olmstead Park.
